Sharp pains at the back of my head

I'm a bit worried, as today I've been experiencing sharp pains on the back of my head, which feel as though they're coming from the interior side of my skull. The pain is intense and makes me feel slightly dizzy but only lasts a matter of seconds - seems to come in short bursts. I used to get this a lot, but haven't had it for a while, but I've had it lots today. :frown: It's extremely painful! Has anyone else ever had this/can anyone suggest what might be causing it?

Is it perhaps coming from your neck? Did you jolt it back? I would get it checked out if you think it's to do with your neck and causes you that much pain. Also the dizziness.. I'd try and see a doc. Hope it's not too painful.

I can't recall anything having happened to my neck, no... I've had it loads today, and it doesn't seem to have been triggered by anything. Could it be stress do you reckon? Only thing is, I normally get headaches on my forehead when I'm stressed - what worries me is that it's not in the right place for a normal headache!

Yeah I suppose it could be stress, but it's true I tend to get them at the front of my head if it's stress related as well. If it persists I'd get it seen to especially coz it's in a funny place.

Yeah, I'm worried it might be a tumour or something :frown:

I've been to the doctor so many times recently :frown:

do you suffer from migraines, maybe its that.
my sister went through a stage of suffering from headacehs and stomach pains and it turned out to be from her diet (although the dr did say that it wasnt definite but was the most likely cause). she ate chocolate and biscuits and sweets all the time, but my mum has to like force feed her vegetables. but my parents got her to change her diet, and they stopped.
if it carries on go and see your dr, it could just be stress or tiredness.

That's interesting, I'd not thought about diet. I've not suffered from migraines before, and I don't think it's that because I think I'm right in thinking that migraines cause prolonged pain? Whereas in my case I get short bursts of pain and then I'm fine. I'm definitely going to the doctor if this happens again over the next few days!

Eeyore, for a start, you sound absolutely knackered.

I know when I'm run down, my spine hurts, and where it joins to my head hurts ;_;

What's your posture like? That is a possible cause for the pain.

Whatever, pain is a sign that something's not doing you good, and if it persists, make sure you're checked out. Dizzy spells are never good. Come to think of it, are you on any medication/antibiotics?

I am quite tired, yeah.... what gave you that impression from my post?!

Yeah, I know what you mean about it hurting just where it joins my head - it gets painfully tender just there, so that I flinch even thinking about gently touching it. :frown:

My posture could be better... I've been trying to improve, but it's difficult when I have to carry a heavy school bag!

I'm not on medication at the moment, unless you count an inhaler?

I totally read your journal

Posture's a massive factor to consider - so many people overlook it.

Nah, the inhaler won't be doing anything like that - antibiotics can sometimes cause dizziness/blackouts, so I was just checking ^_^

Glad to hear you read my journal, I didn't think anyone reads it!

How come you know so much about health?! *wants to learn!*
Sharp pains in the back of head and neck are from:
Stress
Head cold
Flu approaching
Too much TV and computer screen looking

But its mainly from stress, Ive had it loads of times before, just put a hot water bottle on it and take some paracetamol AND importantly get a good nights sleep. Then it will all be over

My only advice - go see a doctor.

In October when I went to Durham I got something just like that but it lasted for ages each time.

The last time it happened it lasted for about an hour, and it was so bad, it felt like my brain was expanding or something. :frown:

Yeah, feels like someone's got hold of the fibres of my brain and is stretching them :frown:

I thought it was because I'd been reading on a coach for 11 hours before it. The looking down might have done something...?

You been looking down a lot?

I did say at the time it wasn't just a headache, seems we've had the same thing.

Yeah, it's definitely different to a normal headache. It does feel a bit as though I've been looking down too much, but I can't recall having been doing that

For about 2 years, i've been getting pains in the left hand side of my face for some reason. I've been to see the doctor about it, and he prescribed me some tablets but the pains still kept on coming. I constantly get them when I wake up in the mornings and during the day. I think sometimes it could be mainly because of stress.

I think I've found out the reason why I've been getting these headaches... it's because my glasses aren't right for me!
