you could try maths, but dont change back to law when you get there

Commiserations. I know of a few people who have got in to Hill colleges to do things like combined social sciences. The problem is I'm not sure they would ever let you change to a subject like law, which is normally over-subscribed anyway. My advice would be to get A levels and then reapply. I know of several people who have got into Oxbridge doing this, despite previous rejections. Having your grades makes it much easier for a department to make a decision since you're a known quantity.

Last year there were no places in clearin at the durham for any subject after about 2hrs, if there ever were any

Durham have clearing for Maths?
If that's true then i guess that eases the pressure on grades somewhat - as they are likely to be more lenient on results day.

I wouldn't necessarily assume so. As far as I can recall, from this year's results there was a note on the university website saying that there were no places in clearing for the Durham city campus and that the only courses that had places were in Stockton.

I only know one person who got in through clearing two years ago, but he's doing Computer Science, which i think isn't oversubscribed.

I think usually the only clearing places available are at Stockton but you should still have a go!
