Were you sponsored through the RAF?
No, I joined the UAS in my second year, made up my mind by the start of my third year and then applied for a bursary. I went to OASC about Christmas that year, and was informed that I was unsuccessful around Easter time (rough timings). The very next town night, we were informed by our boss that the RAF were accepting "anyone with a pulse" for pilot at that time (someone else's opinion!). I felt a bit  by that, and asked my boss about my options if I sh!vcanned my final year, and joined directly on the premise of my previous OASC performance. (In Scotland, or Edinburgh at least, you are eligible for an ordinary degree after your third year in some subjects.) The Air Force agreed, I left the 2:1 somewhere behind on the uni campus, and still got my graduate promotion to Flt Lt as I would have if I'd have stayed for honours.
Long answer, sorry! But what I'm trying to say is that there are many ways in and even if they knock you back once, it doesn't mean they don't actually want you...necessarily!

if theres one answer to a question on your interview that you really need to think about it is " why do you want to be a commissioned officer in the royal airforce?"

another common one is " what is the difference between and commissioned officer and a seniour non-commissioned officer.

you have a got a booklet on " a guide to oasc candidates" right? or are you not that far on in your application yet?

Thanks for that. Those seem to come up quite commonly based on what other people who've been through the process have said.

I don't have the booklet you've mentioned as I'm going for 6FS, although I do have the 'RAF 6FS notes and career briefs for candidates' booklet. From what I can gather it sets out pretty much the same thing. But just in case, I downloaded the one you've referred to from Cranwell's website

I've been trying my hardest to sustain this thread's quest for knowledge for about a 100 pages and 2000 posts now
And it's very much appreciated.

so I probably need a break!
Can't you wait until I've successfully got through OASC before you have a break? In which case, you may be here for some time to come

Oh, nothing. You'll be fine at OASC, so I'll get my break soon!

If you don't think you'll be fine, why aren't you here asking questions? :hmpf:

Christ, not to me, I hope! Just realised my first post here was October 2003 and it started people hurling abuse and saying (and I quote) "this guy can't be a pilot, he probably works at McDonalds and has never even been a cadet."

Why did I stick around?

Why would you be 'mad' ?
Thought this forum was about RAF and Officer entry, not you and WZZ pulling each others pigtails!

After 800-odd posts, I consider this thread my personal property and I'll do whatever I like with it.

Plus, I don't have pigtails, and stop captialising me!

Yes, I've been accepted to start on 03rd April...

That's fantastic news, well done Nik. When did you find out? What branch/post?

I'd like to know how REME got on, have you heard anything from him?
