That's fantastic news, well done Nik. When did you find out? What branch/post?

I'd like to know how REME got on, have you heard anything from him?

I found out on 04th Jan and I got my 1st choice of Eng branch.

I think Reme-Bod must be on Leave!

Nik01
Well done nik01. See you there. :top:

When are you going on your fam visit?

Don't take this as gospel but....

Even more interesting, just read on another site that there will only be 3 IOT's next year. Feb, April and end of May then none until end of Nov 2005, this is to take into account the change from 24 to 30 weeks.

Don't know if anyone can confirm this, Wzz perhaps? PM me if you want to know the site address that I got this from....

Nik01...

so I went to the AFCO the other day and the lady said that trades are indeed closed, and she didn't know when they will open up. Was it Sublime envy that said they are opening at the end of Jan? She said consider officer as they are open, but I really want to do the job in trades!
Anyone have any info.? Cheers

It is worth wile aiming for officer, as if you are able to go to OASC even at that point you dont have to take it, you could still go trades if thats what you really want

The RAF News article even sets out branch/specialisation/rank and numbers affected in the personnel reduction programme, which is to be implemented over the next three years (2005-8). Most of the redundancies are expected to come from the aircraft engineering trades.

Thankfully (for me anyway) the only medical post going is a Group Cpt in Pathology through retirement. However, lean times ahead for all branches by the looks of things :frown:

they are opening at the end of jan as I was informed by 3 AFCOs. the length of time they are open will depend on how popular they are. Firefighter opened once late last year for 24 hours before it was filled.

Officer and Ground Crew selection are compleatly different things altogether so yes, some of the paperwork would be duplicated, but not all. The aptitude is different, (trades is paper based) interviews, medicals, the whole lot. So yes, you would in essence have to reapply though you remain on record as having applied as officer.
Sublime, how did your first flight go?
well guys Im back. Had 3 flights, lots and lots of briefs (about 7 a day) and am booked in for 8 flights over the next two weeks which Im looking forward to. Got my number ones and am feeling like a giddy school kid at the minute. Lots of work to do however though I know my checks which I am quite proud about

Wzz, I was sick on my famil flight  good start eh? That earned a spot on the pigz board and a roliking in the crewroom

Oh and I also sustained severe tissue damage/possible break to my hand when I punched a window....grouded until further notice but I managed to swing it with the CFI.

well we were drinking in the hanger (shock horror) and when we finished we took off to the mess for last orders in one of the boys cars. Guy behind me pulled my hair, I swung round to catch him in the jaw and punched a wondow. Clever eh?
oh and I get severe motion sickness and I have a fear of not knowing things either, hence by the time I went up for my first official flight I knew all my checks to help calm me down. Bit of a perfectionist which really isn't a good thing.

howdy , any of you pilot bitches been flying today?

have you seen the bloody weather? I didn't fancy getting flipped backwards during takeoff. These FJ boys would have been flying. Poor tutors can't handle real british weather
