Change the subject slighty. I have returned from OASC 3 weeks ago and have been successful but have to go on a competition board for a place, anyone heard of this before?

A good website for current affairs is www.newsnow.co.uk well worth a look especially if you want to follow a certain subject.
Thanks

A bit off the topic, but why do military planes not carry black boxes?
They do - usually referred to as ADRs, Air Data Recorders. They record different things on the aircraft, depending on which one they're fitted to, but most will record the ac's attitude, airspeed, and engine parameters. From this, they can then deduce the likely causes of most accidents...
However, whilst it is a "no-go" item if it's broken whilst on UK training sorties, it may or may not be required on operations, depending on what is stipulated at the time.

these ones don't record any comms like they would in commercial?
if not im guessing that's the need for secrecy?

Actually, any comms are likely to be recorded by anybody who happens to be listening out on that frequency, hence the need for secure radios in some instances. And you can also have intercom voices recorded on ADRs, but again, it depends on the scenario/ADR, and I know very little about the Herc ADR.

I think it might be the review boards you're referring to, but I'm sure someone'll put me right if that's not the case.

Oh yeah, and the tape usually needs to be sent off to specialists to be manipulated for the voice track. Anyway, the boards of enquiry usually keep the findings of such things close to their chests until they are ready to publish their report - to prevent any outside influence from idle speculation from affecting their findings.

If PTC decided to hand out flying scholarships using money we desperately need to pay for kit at my base, then I'd like to meet the accountant who authed that! As Dirts said earlier, it doesn't quite add up
PTC don't dish out the scholarships. The money is pre-allocated to the ACO. They then swish it around the pot depending on what they need to pay for, or what HQAC ask for.

Do you mean 68% of officers and NCOs are ex-cadets? That's certainly not borne up by and of the stations I've served on. Probably more like 15%.
This these figures are a little out of date, and mine may need bringing into line, but here's the info (bottom of the page)

(sorry for the delay in posting - gets quite busy now and again)

I have my filter interview at my local AFCO in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone could help me out by recommending any good websites/books etc on NATO other than the home site obviously. Mainly I am having trouble finding information on what the RAF is currently contributing to NATO, its role etc. Any help on this or any tips on the interview would be greatly apprecited.

Thanks.

I've found the RAF News and RAF MoD website useful. http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/news_0501_05.html

Also, if you search for The RAF within NATO's website you should get some good info
