I am applying to the Intelligence Branch and I have carried out as many as humanly possible. I have learnt all the hot topics, such as RAF history, equipments, etc, and, of course, current affairs.

I am sure I can do well in the interview and the fitness test (although I still need a bit more training). The only thing that is worrying me is the aptitude test. Some people say 'you can do it or can't'. And that really scares me. I really want to do well in the test.

May be I can't prepare for the test. But can someone tell me what I should be looking out for when doing the aptitude test? In fact, what is the more challenging aspect(s) in the entire test? In which area did most candidate failed? And how I should avoid doing the same?

Hopefully they're just begging for Engineers and that they weren't cut but i'm really really doubting it
Hmmm, I went along to the Specialist Training part of RAF Cranwell when I was enquiring about Ground Eng. I ended up spending a hour with the gentleman who is responsible for Course Design. He spent a long time going through the whole training program, quite interesting and very good 'meat' for OASC.
At the end I asked about numbers being recruited this year.
They did originally need 118 Gnd Eng Officers.
They did some complicated maths..
and chopped it to ....
59.
exactly HALF.
I dropped that route and decided to apply for NCA. But that's buggered about too now.
Remember, less A/C Sqns = less Engineers. There's usually only 2 JEngos to a Sqn.
Sorry if it's bad news, I am sure they will keep recruiting now and into the future. They are still plugging that Branch at the AFCO and liaison meetings though.
Good luck.
Push the AFCO for everything, they have LOADS of applications for all branches and trades. Make sure yours stays at the top of the 'in-tray'.

Cheers, thats interesting info, I'll call them next week and enquire about the status of my application.

Thats a bit dodgy isn't it, cutting it down to half! hope they still have some open, although, Electrical and electronic engineering isn't a very subscribed course so at least i have that on my side. Can only try! I know for one out of my whole course at uni i'm the only one in the process of applying and a friend was going to apply. So if other uni's are like that maybe thats why they need to push it so much. who knows

See at the presentation we all got given application forms to fill out, kinda supplimentary to the first form we fill out, i sent this off about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard back from them yet to say if i have a filter interview or not, is that normal? I was thinking give them another week and then call them, i'd not be being impatient if i did that would i?
Well when I had my presentation back in November I asked for an interview date on the same day and got one for about 3wks later. It wasn't a case of them offering you an interview then, but maybe some AFCO's are different.

Look, the only thing you can do is not get pissed the night before, concentrate 100% for the entire test, and do your best! Try and answer as many q's as poss , but get them right !

Obviously the RAF don't give you the answers, or the reasons why you failed, you just get a pass or fail for each branch.

Like I said, you really can't prepare, and if your natural ability is not good enough you will fail.

Hey Wzz, how often do you fly, say hours per week? or does flying time differ drastically week in week out? How many hours of prep do you put into a sortie? Also, as an officer are you responsible for others on the ground? Besides flying and prep for flying what else is there job wise to occupy your time?

Do you ever fly against the Tornado F3 aircraft to practice your offensive skills?
