AA Driving School. Most of their instructors are superb and fully qualified, you get to drive a class new ford focus, and when I booked it it came at only around £18.50 an hour for a block of 20 hours

When did you book your lessons with AA? I just tried to get prices on their website, and it works out as £27 per hour with only a 50p discount per hour. The largest discount I can get is £2.00 off per hour only when I book 12 hours?

Are there any other driving school that people would highly recommend?
Don't pay anything more than £20 an hour is my advice

Just don't go with BSM the recommendation for them hasn't been very good plus they charge £25 per hour lesson but they make you do 2 hour lessons
I've just started with BSM, and I'm quite happy. Get an NUS card and save £2 a lesson, plus if you book in blocks there's more money off. They're standardised across the board, and they're not trying to hang onto you to get more money out of you, they're simply getting you through the test, unlike a lot of other independent driving schools I know of. Atm they're doing 5 hours for £85 which could be good as a starter, or if you have enough Tesco vouchers - which I did - you get 4 hours, plus all the books you'll need for theory and practical tests, and your learner plates.

I went with a instructor who is part of a local company with 3 driving instructors, shes been pretty good and based on how much it costs she charges £19 a lesson, my friend paid around £23-24 with BSM and that was lessons booked in bulk.
With my instructor i could book lessons each week, or a couple of weeks in advance and she is very flexible, where as both my friends with BSM booked waaay in advance, all for 2 hour lessons and seemed to spend a fortune.
Apart from independent instructors you might find AA is the best company around for instructors and value for money. My boyfriend is a driving instructor and knows all the companies but now works for AA as he believes they are the best.

I went with the AA. £23 an hour, well worth it. Got a really good instructor who taught me at my own pace and never wasted time during lessons - you see a lot of instructors pull their pupils off to the side of the road for a 15 minute chat every lesson, a complete waste.

Thing is with companies like AA and BSM is that you can't really say they are good or bad. It's the instructor you get - they are franchisees of the parent company, not direct employees, so they teach how they want to teach and organise lessons how they want to. At the end of the day they are an instructor the same as everyone else, except they pay an annual fee to use the company name and get a modern car to teach in.
My instructor does 10 for £180.

Sometimes they have offers on with selected instructors, phone them up to see if any are currently running.
:O £27 per hour! I learnt at £16 an hour, £15 for the first block of ten hours.

Pretty sure my lessons were about 16quid an hour, and 10 for £15! That was only back in '07:yep:
Search for Bill Plant. First 5 are £56, then £20. That is good value, especially if you don't think you will need many lessons.

Hey, could you give me the contact details of your driving school please.

Also, has anyone used "Blake's Driving School" or "Apex Driving School"? If so, would they recommend them?

Where abouts in London are you?

I think my instructor has gone private.

Never heard of the two you enquired about. Sorry.
I'm with Lanes at the moment, £20 an hour if you book them in blocks of 10, £21 if you do it from lesson to lesson  Good value, I think, and I've got a fantastic instructor, very nearly perfect

Britannia Driving School & Mini Driving Schoolseem very appealing. Anyone have any complaints or compliments about these driving companies?
