I don't call my Mum, mother, mum, mummy etc. Is it odd? Why?

Basically, I used to call my Mum... Mummy when I was a little baby like most people do.

When I grew up I stopped calling my her by a name, I've never called her 'Mum' before in my entire life. I just think it'd feel awkward or something. I really get on with my Mum and we're really close, but I just thought it seems kind of odd because I never call her by a name or anything.

Is this weird? Anyone else like this? My dad died when I was 6 months old so it only applies to her.

Sorry I can't be more specific or explain it very well.

What, so you don't address your mum at all?

That is a little odd tbh!

So what do you say when you call her from downstairs or something?

"WENCH!" ?

I'm presuming the OP calls his/her mum by her first name.

It is a bit weird, but who cares?

I won't yell for her across the house or anything, I'm around her most of the time and if she's far away I'll just go to her and ask her.

Or I'll say something like "Here look at this...!"

I know it's kind of odd but I don't know why it's like that, If I'm talking to my brother I'll say "Where's mum?" though.

EDIT: No I don't call her by her first name. When I go to University I can imagine calling her Mum because I won't see her much, I don't know it's just odd when I live at home.

It's very uncommon, but not unheard of. I still find it really odd, even after four years of us being together, that my boyfriend has always addressed his parents by their first names.

'shrug' I don't do it but I don't think its particularly odd

Lol I'm the same, I grew out of calling my parents Mummy and Daddy and never began calling them mum and dad (although I do in xmas/birthday cards). I don't call them by name either. It is a bit weird lol.

I'd never dare call my parents by their first name, Im not sure why....respect or something

I've never called my parents anything other than their actual names; my parents hate the names 'mum' and 'dad', and thus I grew up calling them their real names from day 1 - people always used to think I was adopted or something. I've never understood what's so odd about it tbh.

I wouldn't say it's weird, it's whatever you're comfortable with, after all. My boyfriend's like this, too, so it's not just yours

On Desperate Housewives Danielle's son calls her Danielle.

How rude! It's not "weird" as you put it. Very disrespectful though.

I call my dad by his real name.

That's a bit weird (unless you have not grown up with him or something?)
