3A's and No Offers - HELP!

Hi,

im currently in my gap year having got AAB at A-Level and have just got my 3rd A following january retakes.

Problem is, I dont have any offers, LSE, York, Bristol, Nottingham, Warwick and Oxford all rejected me for politics or PPE.

What sort of Uni's come into clearing, do LSE, UCL or Kings appear and what are my chances.

Got A's in Politics, Economics and ICT

Would i just be better off taking another gap year and re-applying. Im kinda disheartened at the momment by my lack of options.

Cheers

I don't think LSE will have any courses on clearing, as they only seem to provide the most popular courses. However, UCL and King's will have courses on clearing - although these will be predominantly science subjects and other less popular subjects. Same goes for most universities.

Do you have the option of UCAS extra? It allows you to chose one more option if you have been unsuccessful in your choices (although I don't know if there is a deadline for it).

If I were you I'd look at the UCAS Extra courses and see which universities are offering them next year. If there are no universities which suit your requirements I would take another gap year and re-apply.

I would think you'd stand a good chance of getting into at least one of the unis you got rejected from this year being that you've got 3 As (of course, you'd have to do something productive and related with your gap year and make sure your UCAS statement is waterproof).

Last year in clearing for politics were:

Aberystwyth
Aston
Bangor
Bath
Bradford
Dundee
East Anglia
Essex
Goldsmiths
Hull
Lancaster
Leicester
Liverpool
Loughborough
Newcastle
Queen mary
Reading
Royal Holloway
Salford
Sheffield
Southampton
Swansea
Ulster
and
Warwick

And to be honest with good grades like this I would expect you'd ba able to find a place at any of these places (and some more competetive places) via UCAS extra.

Wait until extra vacancies start being advertised and contact any uni's you're interested in. Or alternatively if there's any other less competetive subject that you'd be interested in studying have a look into applying for those courses via extra too.

where did u get that list of unis from?

can u get that for other subjects?
Warwick rejected you and from the list it had Politics in clearing, so maybe you could re-apply again this yr if it shows vacancies in UCAS Extra. I cant believe you've got rejected, as Politics isnt even that highly popular compared to other courses. Maybe it was because of your PS or Reference... From that list some decent unis pop up, like Warwick, Lancaster, Leicester, RHUL.

 That's quite a shocking list!! does that mean if i end up going to uni through clearing (and if i had the required grades for the course), i could still get a relatively good place?!

I can get it for other subjects but I don't always have the time to type out the lists

If you have time, do you think you could do physiotherapy? No worries if not

wow, you got those grades and nottingham rejected you?!

Well, last year at least, they has European Politics in extra, which is pretty similar to straight politics, and only wanted BBB.

What's wrong with politics? You would be surprised at how popular it is in some uni's.
It's quite strange that you got 3 A's and got rejected by all of them. At least you got another chance through extra and clearing. I'm sure they will want you.
