I applied (and was consequently accepted) for the undergraduate (BA) degree in Fine Art. Mind you, this was approximately six years ago, so the requirements may differ (largely if the tutor has changed). I included work that used different media, traditional and digital; finished and unfinished (with the appropriate experimentations with montage) and extracts from my sketch books (revealing my artistic influences, ideas and development). I ensured that my body of work was diverse, while retaining a concurrent theme.

I made sure everything was reprinted (paintings photographed properly), and held everything together via see-through sleeves. A brief description was word processed at the back of each sleeve, detailing the necessary information, such as the title (if applicable), size of the original canvas and the media used, et el. This was held together (at the time) in a leather portfolio case at A2.

Edit: I also attached my CV at the back, although I'm not sure whether that was required. As mentioned, the requirements may differ now.

Good luck.

I've just sent mine in digitally by post (as I live overseas).
I'm very paint based in my work so I included mostly paintings along side a couple of experiments (with mixed media) and life drawings.
Wish I could have included sketchbooks but I was specifically told not to send any in
Good luck
i just sent mine off as well, on a cd because my portfolio was lost in transit 2 another university :frown:
anyways i hope i get in... chlo chlo do u have any pics of ur art work (i wanna see wat im up against), anyways gud luck!!!

Thanks guy, very much appreciated advice! Im going up to London on wednesday to hand it in. Hope it doesnt snow. Im so sorry Alex, dont have any photos at the moment. Though predicted an A, my style generally varies from kinda sketchy, abstract drawings. To quite precise portraitey stuff. I really love Paula Rego, Tracey Emin and Greyson Perry. Im soo bloody scared though that im not going to be good enough. I havnt even done foundation!
In approximately 3 hours my portfolio will be on its way by post :\ really nervous. I haven't done a foundation yet either. good luck all

I applied for the BA Fine art degree two week's back, and still haven't heard from them. Not even a portfolio inspection email? Is this normal?:s

When I applied, I received an acknowledgement email saying they had received my application about a week and a half later. I think the application deadline was 15th Jan, so as long as your application was received before then you should still be considered.
You should get a welcome letter with instructions for portfolio assessment and an email too. Got mine around the same time I got my UCAS welcome letter a few weeks ago. Good luck x
should I add small annotation in each page containing a piece? , like a brief description?

At the open day they said that you can annotate your work (a few sentences) if you think that would be appropriate. They certainly won't penalise you for doing it.

If you want to show work that is in an small A5 sketchbook, would it be okay to slot it into a see through sleeve. Will they still look at it? Or could I take pictures of certain spreads... It's binded with staples and I'm not sure how I would include it.

Also good luck to all of you that have applied, best wishes
