I read that if you're already short sighted it can affect your eyes

Yep. It's caused me to see white dots for days on end before. I had to lay off the computer for a while until my eyesight returned to normal.

Do you think staring at a computer screen for hours can damage your eyesight? i'm getting paranoid as to how long i'm actually spending sitting here!

It can give you a headache sometimes, but it doesn't do any permanent damage.

There are people who work 10 hours a day on computers, and they're fine.

yep it invariably affects your sight. take a break every now and then. if you monitor is quite old get a new one. flat crt or a tft are good.

make sure you view your monitor from at least and arms length away, put it as far back on your desk as possible.

im not sure do a google search google is god google will know
headaches are caused by having the monitor too bright or at incorrect settings. download monitor callibration software. i find this the best:

The glare screens are to prevent headaches, rather than any lasting damage.

Computer/electronic shops used to sell them, but don't newfangled modern TFT things have anti-glare mechanism devices incorporated?

anti-glare is to stop reflected light from being emitteed. those doing physics will know this is a polarisation filter. look at a light source and you will see light, but look at a reflected light source, ie anywhere else and you will see less light. a good way to check is to turn the monitor off and see how much ligth is being relfected - it should be minimal.

i wonder what proportion of TSR users wear glasses? maybe a poll is in order
