Hey,

For my A2 History Coursework, I have chosen the question - "To what extent was speculation the major factor in causing the Wall Street Crash of 1929"

So, was just wondering if anyone had any notes, links to articles, exemplar essays etc.. on the subject to help me gather my notes.

Would be much appreciated

Speculation, problems in agriculture, unequal distribution of wealth led to a small market for luxury goods; excess stocks of goods e.g. cars, drove down the price level; hire-purchase meant that people were in debt; ordinary people invested in stocks artifically inflating prices etc. There was a good programme on BBC which may still be on iplayer preseted by that bald dude?

^^ Agree!

Also, Hoover's Republican policies of 'rugged individualism' and his laissez-faire government meant that the government had no involvement or control over the private sector so economic and financial affairs were allowed to slip into depression
