I'm doing a project on language learnings, specifically at GCSEs level, but I can't find the statistics I want anywhere...

Does anyone know which GCSE Exam Board is the most used by schools in the UK?

this articles says AQA is the most popular
http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=6004184
and there are statistics here
http://www.aqa.org.uk/over/index.php
but I can't find any more statistics than that

I thought AQA was most popular for academic qualifications, I think Edexcel might be if you include vocational courses as well.

All of my GCSEs except maths were on AQA.

AQA I would say as the main, and then Edexcel as the second, however lots are changing away from AQA to either Edexcel for a more.. rounded course with integrated topics (whereas AQA seems to be topic 1, topic 2, topic 3 etc etc, with no linkage between them), or to WJEC after AQA marking has become dodgey for GCSEs as of a few years ago. For instance in my GCSEs, all were AQA except science which was Edexcel. However, in a lot of the subjects, the exam grades came back much lower than expected. For instance I got a C in History, 2 marks off a B. It was remarked twice and then went up to a B. This happened in not only History, but also Business and several other subjects and so in my old school now, a lot of subjects has switched to WJEC, also for the reason that it has a lot more interesting topics.

Probably either AQA or Edexcel. For languages and English, it tends to be AQA.

Edexcel tends to be easier than aqa.

Looking at my subject i don't have a single exam subject on the AQA board only OCR and Edexcel

Reply 12

Dunno, we do mostly Edexcel and a few OCR.

AQA is pretty common for Languages though.

AQA i find have more pleasant specs and they are very organised. I can find past papers and specifications online with ease. EDEXCEL ON THE OTHER HAND ARE GARBAGE. Their specs are unclear and unlogical most of the time, and don't get me started on their GCSE French. I haven't experiecned any OCR.

AQA is the UK's biggest exam boar, following the amalgamation of the former NEAB and SEG in the late 1990s. However, it probably depends on the type of qualification - for vocational courses, it is probably Edexcel, who are the only awarding body to offer International GCSEs

Are you definite of what you are commenting? I am doing AS Chemistry on Edexcel and it is the hardest and most convenient exam board, because it covers every topic a student must know for each unit . For example in AQA Unit 1, they don't cover 'Born Haber Cycles' when students are meant to know at that particular stage, but only cover it at A2 which does not help the student if questions about it show up in their exam. This is only one of the examples why Edexcel is a much more encouraged and preferred exam board by universities, as it equips students best for their selected university and later life.

My school was almost entirely AQA for GCSEs.
Though which is most popular does vary massively between schools.

Edexcel is more organised than AQA if your actually awake, plus Edexcel is better at the not easily understandable or reachable stuff, eg. Chemistry, Maths or Physics.
