Do people really eat dogs,lizards and bats in China

I have just watched this movie and the Chinese people there were eating all sorts of wildlifes ranging from cats to crocodiles. Have anyone eaten such delicacies before and are they any good?

Crocodile is delicious... really, really good. I ate it in Africa though, not China.

I am sure if someone cooked it into a stew or something, you wouldn't be able to recognize what sort of meat it is. So if the cook says it's beef or something and you believed him, I am sure we can all eat it without any ill effect. Nutritionally, it shouldn't be much different from other form of meat.

So whether one can or would want to eat any of these things are all in one's mind or belief or custom. And what is repulsive to a person may not be so to another. For example, Scottish Haggis to a Englishman. Beef to a Hindu. Pork to a Muslim. And dogs/lizards/bats to a Westerner.

Well...from what I know...Chinese people do eat dogs...but that's only a very small part of the population. I also heard that Korean people eat dogs as well.

As for cats, lizards, and bats...I actually haven't heard of that.

I heard of people making crocodile soup in China...but like I said...it's not much of the population. Usually...the weird things that you hear are usually made for Chinese herbal medicine or it's considered a Chinese delicacy. People never...or if they do, rarely eat these kinds of things.

I haven't eaten these types of things. I guess I wouldn't be able to handle it myself.

The myth about monkey brains is false. No one has ever eaten it...at least not one that I've encountered so far. However...from history...they have said that people have eaten monkey brains...but not in the modern society today. :smile:

I've also know that Japanese people eat dolphins, live crabs, live fish, and even puffer fish.

However...I do know of a place...for certain...that eats monkey brains. That place is Peru.

I ate dog in Vietnam and there were plenty of Vietnamese people in the same restaurant (giving us funny looks as apparantly not many westerners try dog).

I didn't enjoy it personally, but then I'm not a great fan of meat anyway. It was kinda chewy....

lol it happens to me as well. Tbh meat is meat, Theres no diference between chickens dogs or pigs. They all are animals

I've ate dog, lizard, scorpion, shark (an entire baby one on a stick :biggrin:

) and some other stuff I can't remember while in China

The most adventurous I've been food wise was squid in a thai style bbq, and that was by accident, only because i didnt know what it was lol.
my dads was given wine with a dead lizard in the bottle...apparently it adds flavour lol

as a CHINESE,i can tell you that happens,but just a very small part of people eat those things. many people regard pets,like dogs,cats, as a member of family,of course,they never eat those animals.

I am sure nobody in his right frame of mind can eat these animals meat. Especially lizards and mice are out of question. people can die by eating these poisonous meats. Although Japanese eat snakes of all kind and serve them in their resturants all over the world. people have different tastes. But most people have aversion to these meats.
