i would like to make the disclaimer that i am rather inept when it comes to geetaring, i just enjoy it

My acoustic cost more than my electric, which is probably why i have an unfortunate tendancy to break the strings every other week.

BUT ANYWAY.

accommodation...yes... i wonder how they will decide from those tick boxes things who goes where?

I hope I get into one of my choices. I should do, because neither are that oversubscribed, I don't think.
Mine are probably oversubscribed, but someone has to get in to them :p: that's the way I'm trying to think anyway, lol. Plus as I'm on a gap year I'm unconditional so as much as I highly doubt I'll be 'prioritised' in any way, at least I suppose they know that I'm definitely going and so they have a definite place to fill... if that makes sense. I don't know, I'm clinging on to any last strand of hope! If I end up somewhere dire... I will be gutted. I've already attempted Uni once and the exact same thing happened twice. It just wouldn't be fair for it to happen a third time!

I thought they sort it out after results day?

I also made it sound like I just drink and watch TV all day. Oh well the worst than can happen is they put me with a load of other drunkards and we all get drunk together and have a great time

It's not that I resent where I ended up; but I'm in the quietest bit of HB and the people down here don't go out a whole lot, compared to the rest of the place. And with hindsight... my accomodation ps wouldn't have been the sucky up rubbish. I would have said 'I like going out and getting a bit drunk and falling on the floor. Please put me with people like this. Lots of love, Laura'.

....Not that I'm an alcoholic, you understand, but it would have been a far more accurate portrayal.

Be honest people!

And for music the choice was classical or contemporary. OBVIOUS this list was written by some old out of touch person. I bet hardly anyone will put classical,

How narrow minded of you.

I love classical music, I have played the violin since I was 7, been in Youth Orchestras since I was 8 and adore it. I'm also classically trained in the piano.

I also love almost every other type of music going...I'm certainly not old or out of touch.

Seems like perhaps you are the one who is out of touch?

IMO the tick boxes won't greatly affect what kind of an environment you go into. Bristol is never going to be able to perfectly match you with room mates who ticked exactly the same boxes. Just like in real life you'll be in a mixed community with people of varying interests.

I think it's just a token on Bristols part as they've taken away the personal statements. They're just trying to give us a feeling that we can affect where and with whom we end up next year. When really the whole process is pretty arbitrary.

I don't think that's quite how she meant it.

She meant it by the fact that it's old and out of touch to simply put Classical and Alternative. For example, is it really possible to lump D&B, R&B and Heavy Metal in the same genre?

Thats exactly what I meant. Because usually elderly people only like classical, and see all modern genres as the same.

And I also said hardly anyone will put classical, which is fair because not many teens like it. Obviously some do (like you), but at my school only one boy likes it.. and so that is what I based my knowledge on.

Of course some young people like classical, but you must admit most of the fan base is elderly (or at least middle-aged).
I apologise  I read it quickly, although I think that you will find many many more people at Uni who enjoy classical music - especially as Bristol has such a large Music dept and society!
I like classical music to an extent - I'm kind of in love with yann tiersen...does he count? but I didnt tick it because I can't talk fluently about the 'true' classics so to speak.

but yeah the whole "contemporary" thing....tis erm a bit silly.

I agree with Odin about the boxes thing...in retrospect.

No worries

That makes sense, although some people who are good at playing classical music don't actually like it :p:
Though if you are going to take a music degree, I assume it would be a good idea to actually like classical music

I'll joint you in that sentiment - the current family hobby is, when driving to visit my sister in easton (one of bristol's more culturally diverse areas...) to play classic fm VERY loudly - it's great :P
On another note - if I put Will's as first choice - is it a really stupid idea to put a less popular catered (HB) as second??

Why would that be a really stupid idea? You should put a less popular one as your second choice.
Rhys.

Maybe he means it will be bad because a less popular hall might not be very nice?
I was wondering whether there is usually a surplus of applications to catered - in which case i'd put woodside as my second choice

Yeah that was a bit badly worded wasn't it... :P

I understood what you meant...kinda  haha, ermmm.....I would imagine its pretty split down the middle, although generally I would say that most people seem to prefer catered...but i would say HB is probs a waste of a second catered place cause if theres somewhere you'd prefer and you dont get in there....hb is where the plonk all the surplus catered apparently....and uni hall is apparently the same for self-catered.
Danke - to be honest, I don't mind being shoved in there - i'm just really picky about which self catered i get stuck in, if I do lol. I really should stop moaning and just stick them down

ah ha yes, one of my favourite past-times too! especially loving (now i'm going to sound like a complete geek...) 'my classic fm' online where they have a stream of music especially for studying....no adverts - woop!

anyway, sorry back to accommodation! :P
