oh right.. i thot maybe if you had lived in the uk for awhile they might count you as a home student. obviously not though... I just wondered!
This is abit random, but I live in Northern Ireland, and although its hard to get in, if you go to a uni in the Republic(of Ireland) the govt. pays basically all your tuition fee. I'm not sure the point of that, but hey... lol

yeah Queen Alice is right, I've been living in London only for 2 years and I can't get British citizenship- but tbh, I don't want it anyway
so it means I have to suffer and pay 4 times more

Yeah but you get first choice accommodation, life isn't all that bad!

I have a British passport but I haven't lived there for years. Still got home status though! But it took a lot of evidence.

Hey, turns out I didn't get either of my choices for accomodation (1st: Wills, 2nd: Badock) and ended up in Churchill Hall. I am a non-smoker and from having a look at the accomodation prospectus do not see Churchill marked as a non-smoking hall. My question is, am I going to end up stuck next to a chain smoker? I'd also like to note I didn't see a tickbox on the application form or anything to specify that I was a non-smoker/smoker.

Thanks in advance.

Uhm...why?

Like I keep reiterating - the deadline is September 1st. Tomorrow is the 29th of August.

Have some patience.

If you haven't heard anything past the 1st of September, THEN you ring them up.

It's the law for your workplace, not your residence.

dont worry i think u should hear in the post tommorrow because i emailed and she said i should have one in the post by friday so im guessing you will too
I thought it was the law for all workplaces and public buildings... and I consider halls of residence to be public buildings as the public are living there...

Meh, oh well.

Meh, oh well.

Wikipedia: "Although prisons and hotel rooms are exempt, university halls of residence pose a dilemma for defining what is public and private. Some universities have imposed a blanket ban including halls of residence and some have not."

As far as I know, if the uni DID allow smoking in halls, it would have to be in your own bedroom - it'd illegal in the halls and kitchen because they would be defined as "public".

I've messaged the welfare person.

So no definite word on the smoking situation in Churchill?

Woa, your life is tough :frown: . Sorry about that man.

Yeah, I think that's true that you can earn some extra income by working a part time job when you're in Uni, I did that too and I got enough to cover my living expenses.

No previous (I believe) post is correct - I really should stop moaning!

It's not as if i'm living in fear of my life in a slum somewhere in somalia :s-smilie:
Well in Manor they have smoking and non smoking rooms. You are not allowed to smoke in any communal areas.

In the accomodation prospectus it says if they are a non-smoking hall or not, so double-check this to see if your hall is completely smoke free.
