scummy innit.

I've never actually been to it, but people seem to compare to some very dodgy council estates.

There's Woodland Court, which I think is the newest property. Check the online prospectus, it's a pdf

He's talking about one actually being built now, not one that's complete. I think.

Hardly anyone applies for UH first-choice because it's simply not very nice. Durdham is a similar price (well slightly more, but with ensuite) and the same location, and is much nicer - so UH doesn't offer much that other halls don't.

would it be wise to put down UH for second choice or there is a better place such as durdham although it seems to be oversubscribed??
and when can i apply for accommodation? will they send stuff to me?

Not trying to be mean, but please re-read the letter of confirmation they sent to you? There's a URL that gives you what you need.

There's no point putting down an oversubscribed place as your 2nd choice. You won't get it.
pipedreams1
yeah. Why?

Well I'm interested in it because I'm a local student, so I have no chance whatsoever in getting into an oversubscribed hall! I have to look at the Hall no one wants, which appears to be Uni Hall... The walk and the scumminess dont' really bother me, as long as I'm in student accommodation I'll be happy.

I think they were asking why no one was interested rather than why were you interested...
hello! just a few quick Qs! i have put bristol uni as my firm choice for 07 and was thinking of putting Goldeney Hall as my first choice...i wondered how many people are in flats? it says 6 7 or 8 but are most 8s because i don't know if 6 in a flat would be too little people...

Also i was going to put Badock or Hiatt Baker as my second choice, does anyone know which has bigger rooms? i hear they're both very social! are they set out in corridoors?

Thanks very much!
hb and badock corridors

badock has bigger rooms i think but not all of them have sinks, hb they all have sinks.
thanx, am not sure which one to put as reserve. also realised i spelt Goldney wrong....i was thinking as i wrote this...this looks wrong...duuh!
Well make sure you put something undersubscribed!

Badock was my 2nd choice actually, as they were willing to give me the disabled suite so I could have my harp with me in hall. They seemed like lovely people when I contacted them about this, but HB didn't even bother to reply, and when I chased them, sent a one line email. Not that impressive really...

Having said that, I've got loads of mates in HB who say it's a really sociable friendly hall, and has arguably one of the best student bars. Plus you have the Union shop right on your doorstep so if you need mid-essay munchies you don't have far to go.

Mid-essay munchies - that's good!

I put Badock down as my second choice, and ended up there - but I wish I'd put down Hiatt Baker.
HB's more social, the food is regarded as better and you're down longer corridors, so more people to meet.
Personally I think the HB bar is better than the Badock bar too.
Like Oblivious said, the rooms are smaller, but they're big enough. A sink would be good too - in Badock they only have them in Units 6-10, Units 1-5 have to go without. And whilst the bathroom situation varies across Badock, where I am it's one shower between twelve people, which is a bit of a pain in the arse.

sinks in rooms are pretty vital. I don't think I would have got by without it.
Hardly vital. It just means having to walk twenty seconds to the bathroom.

I'm not talking about the location but rather the amount.

Having a sink in your room means you can brush your teeth whenever you want, for as long as you want, as often as you want. You probably don't get that in a shared sink accomm. plus, I'd imagine having a sink in your room makes so many things so much easier. For males anyway.
We have four sinks in our bathroom so I can usually brush my teeth whenever I want. My room is next to the toilet so I've never been desperate enough to want a sink in my room as a makeshift urinal. Only reason I'd want a sink is so I can be vain and do my hair in the morning without having to go out my room to wash hair products off my hands.

as long as there are enugh communal sinks I guess it's not really an issue. still nice to have a sink in your room though. I'd hate to be in the position where I was brushing my teeth in the kitchen or something. :\
