im looking at Goldney as my first and Woodland court as my second.

i know its hard to get in to Goldney but i fancy my chances, and if not then Woodland court is just fine

It's not really wise picking two oversubcribed halls.
I went to bristol today and had a look around sb is very nice the only one that really lets it down is hiatt baker which is ACTUALLY a **** hole. If you think the walk from sb is bad take a look at the hills in clifton. Jesus. And the clifton halls look alot better in the photos than they do in real life. I don't get this whole rah thing is it really that big a deal?!

1) I take offence to my hall being called worse looking than UH
2) HB is probably the most sociable hall at SB, maybe of all the halls - the look of the hall isn't that important (as you'll realise when you get here)
3) We have seen the hills in Clifton - they are so much nicer than the SB walk
4) The rah thing isn't THAT important, if you can stand that kind of person, it's fine.
whether its abig deal or not depends on whether you are one or not, if you are, you'll love them, and if youre not, you'll either despise them, laugh at them, avoid them at all costs, or they might make you feel ****, or a combination of the above, depends entirely on the kind of person you are.

is there really a divide between rah's and non rah's?? Ive always thought of uni as a place where every1 comes together if u no wot i mean
Reply 626
Nope. At least I've not found one anyway.

good ! what hall are you in EPD, i am thinking of wills but this rah buisness is a little bit offputting.

I was in Badock, but that was 3 years ago now. I loved it, personally.
Badock is nice but wills is actually buff. I saw it today and I felt like I was in Harry potter lol

The whole rivalry thing is quite off-putting and I’ll say it again all I here on this thing is people slagging each other off based on where they went. Not helpful.

Honestly if you like wills and you're an out going person who doesn't judge people on the school they went to then go. My friend is there and we came from a ****e school and she's had no problems making friends. No one has outcasted her or anything. Alot of the opinions come from people who just can't tolerate them...which is quite unfair

The walk up to the departments is cheaper than joining the gym though.

Yeah...I don't think they're mutually exclusive.

If you really want to save that £60 or whatever, you can go to a Clifton hall and still go for long walks if you really desire it...

Hiatt Baker isn't a "*****hole". It may not be the nicest hall Bristol has, but it's a lot better than the accommodation at some other unis.

Atmosphere/social side is a lot more important than anything else. Even people who are at Churchill and like it admit that it's not the most sociable place.

Personally I haven't found a great deal of rahs at Wills, I think that reputation is slightly undesreved.

How about Goldney first choice and Manor hall second choice? That's what I want to do if i go to Bristol.

Also, I will get my results on june 25th which is earlier than people doing A-levels and IB. Will I have better chance of getting my first choice accommodation than A-level students?

Was hb your first choice?!

To be honest, I'm just trying to find excuses as to why I don't need to join the gym.
to be honest, everyone i know who's gone to HB has said they absolutely love it and that they've had a wicked time. It's definately got a friendly, down to earth atmosphere and by the sounds of it has plenty of party people. I think people are farrrr too hung up on living in some kind of luxury accomodation; the whole ethos of student life rests upon things being a little bit scummy and generally less than perfect. You've got your whole life to worry about living in a nice place and all that jazz; your first year's all about the fun, so it doesn't matter whether you do it somewhere brand new or a bit rough round the edges. My advice is go for the fun.

take it or leave it.
^ my thoughts exactly.

To be honest, for my first year, i couldnt really give a **** about what the place is like, as long as its not totally absolutley unliveable in. I've been to see all of the halls in the SB area and HB isn't that bad - yes, maybe not as nice as the other halls, but to be honest, for me its really not that important.

I'm just up for somewhere sociable where im gonna have a good time tbh - originally i was thinking badock, but Rui set me straight (thanks! ) ...

that said, dont all rush to apply to HB - i still want to get in!! :p: hehe...

Sorry if this has already been asked but what do you do about accommodation if Bristol is your insurance choice? I know for my firm you can apply for it, but there is a box to tick to say that it's your insurance and not your firm. Do I just have to wait and see what happens in August, and if I do end up going to Bristol apply for a accommodation then?

Woah, woah, woah. Don't be hasty. I absolutely loved my time in Badock, and if I had to go back into halls, that'd be my choice. What put you off?

erm, well when i was down there, i looked at all of them and the two i liked best were HB and Badock... originally i preferred badock, but then i asked a couple of people (not just rui, lol, my cousin is at bristol, and so on...) and then did a lot of thinking, and, i dont know really, just decided i preferred HB to Badock... seemed more sociable, i preferred the blocks, and my gut feeling was that was where i wanted to go. Badock - i liked, but when i went there it just felt a bit characterless, and the woman showing us round was really trying to sell it to us! :p:

But, erm, i havent 100% decided - what did you love about it? and what were your perceptions of HB when u were in SB?
I'm going to wait for the accomodation application sheets before making a final decision. But I'm kinda thinking Goldney/Durdham as 1st choice, Manor/University Hall for 2nd choice.

Am I stupido?
