Over_The_Odds are you iranian?!

Churchill and badock second. For sure.
PLEASE HELP! I'm comig Bristol next year and can't decide wht to put as my first choice. It's between Durdham and Winkworth...but the main reason for my dilemma is that i dont know if Durdham is very sociable or not so:

1. Is Durdham very social as this is majorly important

2. As Winkworth has flats does this mean that it's very dull all the time

would be extremely greatful for any input.

thanks

How about Goldney first choice and Manor hall second choice? That's what I want to do if i go to Bristol.

Also, I will get my results on june 25th which is earlier than people doing A-levels and IB. Will I have better chance of getting my first choice accommodation than A-level students?

I wouldn't risk it personally. Manor has roughly the same amount off applicants as places, so I doubt many people get a place there as there second choice.

In your position, I don't really think you'll get much choice when it comes to halls. I doubt you'd get into Manor let alone Goldney as an Insurance student. The fact you take the IB shouldn't make a difference, it wouldn't be that fair if it did really.

Yeah that post is before I chose Warwick. I realise that I will have no choice for accomodation since it is my insurance.

ah no probs. What made you pick Warwick (;yucky:wink: in the end?

The Bristol Econ course is very very mathsy. I hated it so I can see where you are coming from. I'm not really in a position to comment on whether or not you made the right choice.

As for the reputation thing, seems like a fairly trivial thing really. Once you get to the top 10 or so univs the difference in rep is marginal, Oxbridge aside, but I guess it's another thing to go alongside the course preference.

I thought you wanted to change to Law anyway? or was that someone else?

erm, well when i was down there, i looked at all of them and the two i liked best were HB and Badock... originally i preferred badock, but then i asked a couple of people (not just rui, lol, my cousin is at bristol, and so on...) and then did a lot of thinking, and, i dont know really, just decided i preferred HB to Badock... seemed more sociable, i preferred the blocks, and my gut feeling was that was where i wanted to go. Badock - i liked, but when i went there it just felt a bit characterless, and the woman showing us round was really trying to sell it to us! :p:

But, erm, i havent 100% decided - what did you love about it? and what were your perceptions of HB when u were in SB?

Ah ok. If you ask me, there's not a lot to choose between HB and Badock. They're both very sociable, they've both got great bars, and you'll do well in either. I don't know exactly what it was about Badock, just a lot of small things. The staff were friendly, the bar was good, there was always something going on, 4 tennis courts and 4 squash courts, all recently done up, snooker room etc. HB has most of these too.

Yep that was me. Both unis said a transfer wasn't possible though so I will see if I like my course, if not I will reapply for law probably.

HB and Badock are quite similar but HB wins:

- Longer corridors = more sociable.
- (Generally agreed) better food.
- Mixed corridors (Badock is only single-sex)
- Better bar (that's my opinion, it's debatable, but I don't think anyone argues against Badock and HB being the best two)
- Sinks in rooms.
Can anyone tell me how much they spend on food per week, catered and self-catered responses both welcome!!
I'm just wondering if maybe it IS actually worth going for a catered hall.

But if you play squash/tennis, you've got facilities at Badock, whereas I don't think you do at HB, right? I know they didn't have squash courts at least when I was there.
theyre like 2 minutes away form each other and i daresay you can use them regardless
Reply 653
Precisely. The sign on the door of the squash and tennis courts say they're open to all the Stoke Bishop halls.

The Wills tennis courts are next to HB as well, anyway.
lalala...what's every one taking?
Reply 655
Ah right. They wouldn't let people from other halls use them when I was there. At least not if it was busy.
