Not hugely relevant to accommodation though is it...

Anyone? Just an basic average of what you spend per week?

Somewhere on the Bristol website there's a breakdown of what an average student spends each year. I guess you just need to divide it by the time you'll spend at Bristol.

EDIT: Look I've even been nice and found it!

It's at the bottom of this page (assuming the link is working!)

Lol. Sorry if that sounded overly harsh, I didn't mean it to! Just maybe it was a question more appropriate to the 'definite 2007 student' thread.

or the chat thread...
what you spend on food depends on a few different things:

- how much you can cook/can be arsed to cook
- whether youre a fussy person who won't eat non-brand stuff
- if you like little luxuries

I would say, if you're willing to cook from ingredients, rather than buy ready made sauces/meals etc, buy own brand or even basic/value stuff (it's all the same you know...) and dont buy ben& jerrys and stuff, you could probably budget £15 a week for food, but it will take you a while to adjust to knowing what to buy/how much to buy. I was spending stupid amounts at first and not even eating the stuff coz it was all going off before I could use it.

I would say budget £20 to start with, but once you get adjusted/learn to cook it will probably be less...

Why on earth do they need FOUR passport photos when applying for accomodation?

so Donald can judge how ugly you are if you apply to Wills.

on a more serious note...

for meal cards if you apply for catered, not sure about self-catered accomodation

Hmmmmmmm I'm going for The Hawthorns as my first choice... for definite like. Maybe. We'll see when I get the accommodation forms. Being across the road from the department is rather appealing.
Has anyone else noticed that in the pics all the rooms in most houses are painted a really cold, bright blue? Why?? I know it's quite a gender-neutral colour in the way of bedrooms but it's awful...

I thought you were going for Goldney? Or was that someone else?

I was thinking of putting Goldney as my first choice and The Hawthorns second but I'm not too sure now, leaning towards The Hawthorns as first choice.

The Hawthorns seems to have shot up in price (like everywhere else) so I'm not sure what sort of room I'd go for... small ensuite maybe. One of the big ones might be a bit of a waste (and expensive); my room at home is quite small so I wouldn't be missing anything with a small one.

Does the TV room/common room/whatever get used much? Or do people more often hang around in each other's rooms? Anyone?

What would you have as your second choice in that case then?

Churchill is buff and i love the sb area. Based on what i've heard from this thing i just don't like the clifton side of things. No offence but all i've really heard is 'its really close' and 'stoke bishop is full of rahs' big deal

I know a girl in churchill quite well, and I never got the impression that she liked it too much.
except the food is meant to be pretty good.

But I guess all the halls will have roughly the same quality of food[???]

For catered, I'd prob go to HB. It may look ****, but I reckon it's probably the best in SB.. Plus, why are you judging a hall on its outside appearance?
I mean, half the Colleges in Oxford, LOOK lovely, but then have absolutely rubbish rooms.

Question; People currently in SB, looking back, would you have rather gone to a Clifton hall?

I was thinking that, I mean, once you're inside the hall you're looking out of it, rather than at it aren't you?
