What sort of stuff should we write about in our personal statements for the accommodation. Im sure this has been asked before, but is it just generally about hobbies and interests etc..........?

Also, why do we have to write one? is it so they can see whether they like us, or so they can match us with a certain group of people?

its basically just a personality thing I guess...and I think it's actually used to match you up with ppl of similar interest etc.

just a question...if you actually pick who you want to room with, do you even need to fill out a personal statement?!

probably, how else are they going to know how else to put in the same flats/corridors?
So sorry, just to clarify:h:ow much is this a case of you selling yourself?

I presume there's no motive to sell yourself...you're guaranteed accommodation.
They won't reject you now :p:

Lol. I know, but with oversubscribed halls I just wonder how much you have to compete.

hmm...perhaps. But I don't think they'd decide on 'merit' if you know what I mean. It's all pot luck. Hypothetically, the hall you want could have a bunch of lazy slobs...so, if say you're a lazy slob you might have a higher chance of getting.

again, this is all speculation. I know as much as you do mate.

I don't know mind, I think some of the halls are pretty selective.
I mean, if they CAN be selective, then they will be.

but on what criterion? you can't tier individuals according to hobbies/interests.

Some individuals will offer their hall more than others.

For example, some guys down my corridor get involved with organising formal dinners, putting on plays, sports teams, JCR etc.

Whereas some people, like me, can't be arsed.

Hence they'd pick the others.
They try to get a mix of personalities, subjects, interests etc too. Wills like musicians, particularly pianists as they ask them to play at formal.

I'd say it was partly a case of 'selling' what you can give to hall life but its also to try to ensure you don't get put somewhere you won't be happy.

Wills love Christians too. Put down that your uncle was Jesus.

Jesus was my dad, so suck on that.

I'm hopefully going to be in The Hawthorns...keep it down
I play guitar (acoustic),but it's not really a loud instrument so I'm not putting it on my accommodation form...plus that might put me next to Ms. Sax  no offence:biggrin:

Ho-kay... so, what, you don't like sax? Or 'Ms Sax' ^o)
Haha...no, I'm sure you're a lovely person  I was just wondering if Ms. Sax might be playing her Sax at 3 am...or you know, something...
