I know a few people in Manor, and they've all said it's a fantastic hall; I held a launch party for Goldney Ball there a couple of weeks back and there were loads of people in the bar, compared to Goldney at this time of hyear when there's only about 5 people in at any given time, so they certainly seem to be the most social hall. room are big as well from what i've heard.

I have a question about this perosnal statment we have to write for accommodation...

Is it like a 'im a friendly person who is interested in football, cricket and music' sort of thing or a 'i am a tidy person who is able to cook and tidy my room (so let me into your hall)' sort of thing???

Reply 764

I'd say the former - you need to emphasise what you can contribute to hall life...

Reply 765

If you're applying for SC though I'd make sure to imply that you really do want to be self-catered, that you'd enjoy the freedom or love cooking or something. According to some article people were rejected from oversubcribed SC halls on the grounds that they 'weren't suitable for self-catered accommodation' or something similar and they had to start using any excuse to cut the numbers down.

Yeah, it's pretty much the same at Wills as well...

Was very impressed by tonight's selection - trout with prawn and mushroom, green beans and cous cous  I have a complete obsession with fish so it was purrrfick

See, if I went self-catered there is no way I'd have a meal that good the whole year. It would just be super noodles.

People's views about the food differ. My favourite food is definitely fish and tonight I thought the trout was absolutely rank. Thursday's is always scampi or some sort of pasta and lumberjack chips and that is my absolutely favourite meal of the week along with sunday roast.

Are there yorkshire puddings with the roast? :-P

Reply 772

yes when we get beef.

final (pedantic) question about the personal statement...from me at least.

will you or did you handwrite it? or type, print and stick? or type on the pdf?
I can't write straight to save my life (on plain paper, of course)...
maybe they'll think i'm unbalanced and stick me with convicts or something

thanks

Reply 775

25-45 mins, depending on how quick you walk.

they've sent out the accommodation applications? I still havn't got mine...

Reply 777

I sent them an e-mail asking for the documents to be e-mailed to me since my post is pretty crap.

so they just sent me a link to a page for overseas students where you can download the form and send it off yourself...
for some reason, there's no link at all to this website. it's just floating on this bris.ac.uk domain

Reply 778

fair enough, I'll just wait for them to post my application and stuff..got a bit scared for a minute there that everyone else had recieved their applications but me or something...

Reply 779

I'm getting pointlessly impatient.
