It's strange, Churchill is always shown as undersubscribed, but I know at least three people who applied to Churchill, didn't get in and got put in Badock.

Yes, but spending one evening in the vague company of someone is rather different to living with them.

No offence, but you seem to think you know a hell of a lot about Bristol on the strength of a couple of visits.

and you seem to think that you know everything.

It gets bloody annoying listening to you saying that everything's crap apart from places that you yourself think are great and awesome.
And being honest, you sound a lot more stuck up than most private school people I have met.

Also I would hardly call it a couple of visits.

Just calm down and stop having a go at everyone for expressing different opinions and asking questions that might have been asked before.

ok i know i posted in the other thread but anyway..how many storeys/floors are there per flat in goldney? By the looks of the picture in the current prospectus there are 3 and one of them is below ground level!!!! is that true or are those rooms used for other purposes?
Reply 943
The block have either 3 or 4 storeys. 3 of the 4 storey blocks have an 'underground' flat, though they aren't really underground at all, it's just that the whole site is built on a hill so there are some funny multilevel buildings.
Reply 944
hmm and the 4 storey blocks are centred in the middle...the 3 storey blocks are surrounding the central 4 storey blocks right?
by the sounds of it, people in the bottom storey will have to gasp for sunlight! :-S. dear dear..
well, im bucking the trend for goldney/wills, and applying to Hiatt Baker... fun.

stepheh - have you looked round soton halls? whats wrong with them? (i applied there, jus interested)

Of course I don't think I know everything, but I've lived here for 8 months now, I've visited all the halls multiple times (aside from Manor, I've NEVER met anyone from there) . And I don't say 'everywhere's crap' - in fact I've said numerous times that Bristol's accommodation is (on the whole) very good. Nevertheless, there are still very big variations in quality.

And I don't have a go at people for expressing different opinions. But you came on here with some rather, how can I put it, solid views about Durdham and constantly mentioned that you "weren't rich enough to afford Wills etc". You now appear to have completely changed your mind and yet talk incredibly authoritively on the subject...which I find a bit odd.

I don't think I'm stuck up at all, personally - I don't think anyone that's met me would call me stuck up - but what I will say is that the one thing worse than the 'rahs' constantly flaunting their wealth is those who constantly wallow in their lack of it.

Re: DB's 'multilevel building' comment - buildings like that in Bristol confuse me so much. The Social Sciences block comes out onto the street at THREE different levels, I still haven't got my head around it! That building is a nightmare...
why is manor so unpopular..... im starting to get worried about that!

should i reconsider my application?
prob because its single sexed. that completely put me off

It's just aswell that I don't give a damn about what you say then isn't it

Subbacultcha, don't get me wrong, some were lovely [especially the new ones.. they were fantastic].. but it was so expensive for that [were talking catered halls in bristol prices for SC in soton]. And then there was a huge drop in quality between the nice ones and the next ones down..

no that's wrong. I can't even begin to desribe it accurately but the 4 four storey blocks form one 'wall', two other four story blocks form another 'wall' at 90 degrees to that, then two 3 storey flats are at 90 degrees to that again and face the four storey blocks to form a quad.

Then there are another two two storey blocks way on the other side that form Linbury Court, with another block that sits to the side of the quad and Linbury court, it's pretty central to the grounds as a whole and is the high security block as it were, it's were the 'famous' students are allocated.

Look it up on Google Earth.

yeh, it sucks the way Bristol single sex floors don't let you have any contact with the opposite sex.

I'm sure he's lovely [seriously]
And I know people come across really differently online to how they are in real life. :p:

Apologies to Rui for being rude!

Damn i thought i had my decisions sussed out but im not so sure now ive been told university hall has the smallest rooms and kitchen...thats really bad.....maybe il apply there anyway and just i hope i get really lucky and get into goldney hall as my first choice.....

Btw whats everyone putting on their accomodation personal statement? I figure its too see whether youd fit in with the house/hall and to try and match you up with people with broadly similar interests?

I have no idea what to write about though. Seems kinda stupid to mention the academic stuff thats in my personal statement and mentioning music, sports, films seems kinda obvious too. Umm any suggestions?

it's mentioned somewhere in this long and winding thread.
i'm having a crappy time writing it too...just putting in random stuff on lifestyle/habits etc. I wish they'd just be bloody specific about what they want to know. I know guys going to McGill who just have to fill in this little questionnaire that asks how many hours a day do you sleep? how loud do you play your music? etc. etc.

anyway...i'm basically just writing stuff about my hobbies/lifestyle (predominantly the latter seeing as my hobbies are hardly note-worthy)
