Well if you write that, it's highly unlikely you'll be offered a place at Wills in the first place...

I really don't think that Wills is particularly "rah" at all. There are people who fit into that category, obviously, but they're so cliquey and generally uninvolved in hall life that you hardly notice them.

Similarly, the comments made about Churchill shouldn't be taken too much to heart; the intake differs every year and it just happens that this year attracted an unusually large number of "hooray henriettas" .........

If I do put Wills as my second choice, it's unlikely I'll get a place there if my first choice doesn't work out.
True/False?

I really want to do it anyway -because at least I'll have put down the halls I like best and after that it's up to luck. I'll always make the most of wherever I go.

Also, I'm definitely of the order of not stressing out about the personal statement. It's not a test; just be yourself and be honest. Then again, I'll tell myself this so that ultimately I can be lazy ;D

There's NO WAY you'll get into Wills if you put it as second choice. Most people who apply to Hiatt Baker will apply to Wills and be rejected so you really don't have much chance getting in if you put it as second choice.

Bad idea. It's not up to luck, it's up to your own common sense and that means NOT putting such an over-subscribed hall as your second choice! If you don't make your first, there is no way you will be offered a place at Wills, trust me. And that means you're likely to end up in some crappy student house/somewhere you'd rather not be. Put Hiatt Baker or Badock as second choice!
Oblivious, get the ***** off TSR and do the work that you have 45 minutes left to complete!

As is usually the case with every stereotype there is an element of truth and it is true that it can be a little quiet here, a short visit down the Hall Bar is enough to confirm that. However, I personally don't feel I've missed out at all because I've made an effort to get involved in what does go on, make friends in the hall and on my course and generally not sit in my room. Hall life is what you make of it, and if you want a lively first year don't let Dullham's (haha sorry, Durdham's) reputation put you off. In all seriousness it's fine, just a bit more of an effort than some other halls.

Ok cheers mate, but i find it hard to understand how a hall can keep up such a reputation when new people go in every year.
Ahh well, might have one more browse through the prospectus before i send off anyway.

I wouldn't have said this is particularly true either....

Sounds like you want to apply there, may as well. If it's dull just join other things, I'm sure saying "I was an active member of so and so society that sounds good (ie i went out drinking with them)" sounds better than "I spent all my time in the hall bar".

Well to be honest, it was probably between there or Goldney. The only thing really swaying it was the ensuite you get at Durdham lol. So i'd say i was currently open-minded about anything which might make my mind up, once and for all.

Certainly true about the different intake each year, but I think Churchill's had that reputation for a while. I spoke to my friend's sister the other week, who graduated from Bristol three years ago, and she said it was the same back then...some things never change, I guess...

I'm inclined to agree that Wills isn't massively rahey. Certainly no more so than Badock.

That means a lot to me. Thats probably swung it.

Wills not rahey? Hmmm....I would say that Wills does have a LOT of rahs but they seem to clump together from my experience, making them less obvious. Even just going on the 'Wills bus' to town on a Friday night shows how patently clear that there ARE a lot of rahs there; I still maintain that 'chants' on the bus are a result of public schooling.

I would also like to say that the Wills rahs are more inclusive perhaps? They don't go out of their way to annoy you but you cannot deny that they are not there. You've got frickin' Jack Wills 'tracky bums' on sale (I DETEST that phrase), what says more rah than that? Furthermore, there is an attitude up there (particularly at the start of the yeah) that being 'up on the hill' is way better than being down at '***** Bunker', especially when people endlessly bring up formals and the like.

I just think that even though I know a few people well from Wills that aren't rahs, there are a lot of them there. You just have to look around!

rah hunting how fun lol i guess there ppl at uni really do have a lot of time on their hands
Wills doesn't have a LOT of rahs. There's some but not that many to constitute a "LOT".

Formals rock, I don't know what I'd have done without them on Friday night really.

Wills isn't as rah as Churchill, not by any stretch of the imagination. I'm a testament of that clearly.

BTW NIK ADD ADRIAN FLINT ON FACEBOOK!!!!
rah rah black sheep.
have you any wool?
yes, sir, yes, sir.

Totally disagree, sorry. Out of all the people I've met during my time at Wills, I could count the number of people on two hands whom I would classify as totally dislikeable, up-their-own arses, unendurable epitomies of "rah." A rah is defined by the way you act, not how you speak or what kind of school you went to, and you're assuming that public schooling automatically makes you rahey.
I am being put off UH the longer i stay on this forum.. I'd be chuffed to get into the little cottages, as I the flats are probably bigger..
