You can, it's not like anybody is going to stop you. Saying that, I'm on an all s corridor and my next door neighbour has frequent visits from her (very irritating) boyfriend, who stays for up to a week at a time, shaves his pubes in the showers, and bangs against the wall when they, erm, copulate. Avoid any of that and it won't be a problem.

ewwwww...im scarred for life! lol.

thanks for the answer though!

You're going to have to explain that you know him in real life.

Or at least I hope you are and he's not just really wierd, well he is (zoology dude!!! WAAAAY!) but maybe not that. I hope.

Maybe they should only let people into Hawthorns who play an instrument! That way everytime you walk past the place you will be greeted by a harmonious cacophony of sound.

I play the cornet (small trumpet) and I'm putting The Hawthorns as my first choice  But saying that, I won't be practising in my room, because I haven't played in a couple of years, so I'll only be playing for a laugh in the lowest standard band they have going at the Uni  Hahah.

Don't take your car. End of.

I have mine in Bristol, because I need it to move my harp around and to travel to the little village in Wells where I have my harp lessons. Otherwise, I really really wouldn't need (or want) one...

The parking in Bristol is a pain (£3.20 for a max of two hours near the uni) and on the rare occasions you can find a space, you have to pay a fortune to use it. Car crime is at the highest level in the whole of the UK, and my insurance costs have sky rocketed since changing my address from London to Bristol as a result.

The general attitudes of the drivers down here is a pain as well - very slapdash and they love taking advantages of gaps a few centimetres big.

Trust me, the buses are frequent, cheaper and MUCH easier! Walking's always good too...

A mate of mine parked her car at the top of a hill (somewhere near Badock?) and someone smashed the window and took the handbrake off. I think it ended up in a lamppost somewhere near the bottom of the hill...

Well, obviously you'd have to tell us where you were looking to stay before we can give you any more meaningful info...

Yeah, exactly. A friend of mine had her car broken into not that long ago... Scary really. I worry about my car so much in Bristol, in a way I usually don't in London...
I've just sent off my accommodation form with Goldney as my first choice, I kind of directed my personal statement at Goldney specifically, does this matter and what do you think the Goldney warden is looking for? Answers would be much appreciated! cheers, tim

Ahh i just sent mine off with Goldney 1st as well, i didn't really direct it at Goldney which im starting to regret now. I don't think it's hugely necessary but im sure that it would be more help rather than not at all. Im guessing they're likely to put people with similar interests etc together who have all applied to the same halls, and that might play the main part in how they choose. Saying that, i dont really know lol but good luck with getting a place there anyways.

for heavily oversubscribed halls I'd have thought it was pretty important to mention the place by name...
Really? I got into Durdham without doing so...

ORLY? Im thinking of applying there this year, and in the prospectus it says something like 'we welcome students who will continue the traditions of the hall' or something.... what 'traditions' does Durdham have!?

(Oops, didn't mean to derail the thread........)

thanks

yeah i thought it would be pretty important to show that u really wanted ur first choice by talking about it specifically, but what if u dont get in, and then it's snet to ur 2nd...and then they think that your statement is rubbish because it's entirely focused towards ur first choice hall...

wouldnt u end up stuck in a tiny student house?
Reply 1076
Well I'd have thought that the more your PS was tailored to your first choice the more likely you'll get in, so it probably doesn't really matter. Saying that, some halls must know that they are second choice, so they'll hardly take it personally.

I was just wondering, if i applied for Goldney and ticked that i would prefer an en-suite room, would i not be considered for a Goldney room minus en-suite as well? What i'm asking is, if i tick en-suite will my chances of getting in be lowered seeing as there aren't as many en-suites?
That's a good question actually..
Ring the accom office and ask...?
