Ive done exactly the same thing- and you've just made me think! I hope it doesnt lower our chances of getting in.......

Does the smoking ban come into place in halls of residence?

If so, shouldn't matter.

I can't think of any Scottish accomodation that let you smoke inside (where the ban is already in place) but I think legally you probably are allowed to smoke in your room, not so sure about the corridor or kitchen but I think your room is probably allowed.
Best check up on that though.

Bit worried that because I like sports (read badminton and biking) that I'm going to be lumped with footballers (no offense, but wtf is the point of it?).

Still can't decide, anyone which has the best facilities for bikes: Churchill, Hiatt Baker or Wills..

Gotta put mine in tomorrow as I'm off away - so quick advice please! Thanks!

I'm jsut filling in my acc. form.... and i'm now wondering; if i end up in a sinlge-sex flat/floor, will i still be allowed to have my gf stay as a guest? Does it depend on the hall?

Thanks

From what other people have said on here it's fine, but you're sposed to sign them in. And isn't there something in the pack that says even if you are in a single sex area, you will have to tolerate others' visitors.
Hey guys,
I put down wills as my first choice, but am not sure about what to put as second choice, badock or churchill. My main concern, is that if I put down churchill, and I dont get wills, there is a chance that i wont get churchill either, cause demand on it is higher than that on badock. So i dont wanna end up in some random hall that i didnt want. What do you think I should do?
Thanks.

Its kind of a Personal statement. Does anyone know what to write for the accomadation form, where it asks you to write about interest hobbies etc.

Does this decide if you get the halls or not. Or is it to put you with like minded people?

Thanks, and i apologise if this is in the wrong place

thank you

I wouldn't say it was totally insane but other people might have different ideas, I'm thinking of putting a more suscribed hall down as my second choice though so I might not be the one to ask.
Anyway, don't they try as much as possible to keep you with catered (if you tick the box) if you don't end up in either?

But someone has just asked exactly the same question on this very page. It's good manners to read the first 2 pages and last 2 pages of a thread if you're going to ask a question.

To Elmopsk and Ramtheman (both of whom asked pretty much the same question), I wouldn't put Churchill down as back-up. I know someone who put Churchill as firm and didn't get in - therefore (assuming the applications for each hall are roughly the same) no-one that puts it as a back-up will get it.

Better off going for HB.

I finally sent off my accommodation form today after the long delay. It was such a big relief!!!!
Is there anyone here who can tell me a bit more about Manor Hall and Sinclair House and wether it's true that gas an electricity bills have to be paid on top of fees in these places? Basically, i'm trying to make up my mind up between University Hall and Manor/Sinclair house as a second option and after having read some comments here i'm starting to lean towards the latter.

I've scanned through all the posts that have been made quickly and i couldn't see that this has already been mentioned, but i apologise in advance if it has!

I really wouldn't put Manor as second choice... I'd guess that it'll fill up with first choice applicants this year.
Why do you say that? The accomdation booklet suggests the number of apllicants choosing it as first choice is equal to or less than the number of places. Is university hall really as bad as some people seem to be making out it is?

I think it's more like equal - in which case, no-one who put it as second-choice will get in.
hey, can peeps who know about these places give some pros and cons for each, like how lively is each, with student atmoshphere, the people etc. i need to make my decision soon! lol

thanks

Hmm. So, three questions / statements which could use a response from those in the know.

1. Where do all the geeks hang out? Seriously. As much as I do have a life outside computers and the internet, I've never got on with the kind of guys who enjoy football (so, 97% of the male race). Geeks are much friendlier, more outgoing and more interesting in general I have always found. I do live in a very odd area though, so I could be unique in my experience.

2. Who decided this accommodation paper was to be glossy? My pen seems to hate the material and along with my handwriting, it doesn't look very clean. I'm going to include a typed out version to make it easier for the poor person who has to decipher my form. Should make it easier for them and make errors less likely, so a win for everyone. As long as they accept it of course. I see no reason why they shouldn't.

3. Due to circumstances (which I have written to Bristol about, so hopefully they'll consider them) like the the politics poster before me, I might have to convince the physics department to accept me when I miss by a grade. I won't say beg, because all the crying in the world won't convince anyone that you're a good student. So, how forgiving is the department? I'm especially nervous because this man does not look happy. If I remember right, Dr. McMaster was away on my open day, so I never met him. Appearances can often be deceiving so he might be incredibly nice and understanding, but I just don't know. Any insight from physics students would be a welcome, really.

Right, I need some sleep to make sure I'm in acceptable form for work later and for the plans after, so I shall leave it at that.

Thanks in advance,

Hehehe, only a geek would overlook the idea of using a biro rather than a ballpoint pen to stop the smudging on the form :p:
And re: that Physics guy, I think he looks lovely! I think it's the curl placed on top of the head in an effort to make the balding less obvious that really holds his charm

Is there a difference between a biro and a ballpoint pen?
