Are accommodation offers set in stone? If you werent happy with your offer, could you phone up and request to be changed?

They say that you will be made only one offer of accommodation. However I believe there is a system in place for people who want to request a transfer once they're there; current students will know more about it I'm sure.

yup! rightly said..however im not sure whether the tranfer system starts immediately. And mostly the only open places reamin in the small student houses and not the big halls like goldney.

I know of people who got transferred into Goldney. There were two of them in my flat in fact.
Reply 1348
wasn't it difficult for them to make freinds?
i mean wasnt everyone already in groups etc?
where did they transfer from?
I'm in durdham. woop!
i am so chuffed..
i got the letter last thursday, but seeing as i've been in reading have yet to read it.

So, I got my Durdham stuff in the mail today, and I spotted this:

"You may not have overnight guests without permission of the warden or student houses manager."

Is this permission difficult to get? I have a couple of friends back here in Kent who'd love to visit occasionally, male and female. Would I be able to get permission from them? Or is it one of those things refused nearly always on the spot?

Thanks for any help or tips,
-Rag

Fake edit: Ah, Stepheh is in Durdham too I see, that brings the total amount of Durdhamites I know to.....two.
lol don't worry, all the halls say that, but it's piss easy to get your guests into them; in reality, they just don't know if you live there or not half the time, and the other half, they're just not going to stop you when you're clearly off to have sex with someone, or have got your mate down to stay. could be tricky getting them fed in catered halls though.

I am potentially going to be returning to Durdham as a second year this year (depending on a lovely resit!) and you honestly don't need to worry too much about permission for guests - noone really bothers!

If you have any questions at all about Durdham, just let me know

I wouldnt even mind asking for permission, I just object to Badock hall expecting my 'guest' to pay £21 a night for the privilege of sleeping on my floor!!!!

yeah, just dont bother telling them about guests.. i visited durdham loads and never had any problem [plus.. its something stupid like 2 nights a term that you can have visitors. gays]

i'm really worried that i'm going to get stuck in a flat with one of the tutors..
how **** would that be..

p.s. we should totally meet up in the first few days! what time do you have to arrive? i'm between 9 and 10.. humpf.
I'm into Hiatt Baker! Yay :]
Applied to Wills but hey, I'm just glad I got into Bristol full stop, I'd live in a cardboard box outside of Sainsbury's if necessary (not that I put that on my accomodation statement...)

I'm signing lots of things at the moment, and working out where I'm getting the frankly obscene amounts of money from to pay for it all... :p:

Large single in Hillside/Woodside. Go me! *dances* Only £2812 incl everything too.

I am obsessive though, I got the email within 2 minutes of it being sent.

Two nights a term?? I never heard that rule! To be honest, the tutors, warden etc couldn't really care less who is in your room as long as any parties aren't too loud (they are quite funny about that!).

Just to clarify, the tutors aren't really in anyone's flat. Only a couple of the tutors have flats which you have to go through another flat to get into, but they are self-contained so you won't have any tutors mingling in your kitchen!
ooh really??

great stuff.
but do you know anyone that was in a tutors flat?
wouldn't you have to be.. less noisy and stuff?

Dont worry...no one bothers whether u have friendz staying overnit..as long as you are not having a wild 3am party with really loud noise levels in ur room. Infact ive known sum1 whose had her bf stay over for almost a month.

as far as feeding ur frndz in catered accom. is concerned it depends on the hall. In churchill its pretty easy, no-one seems to ask you anything..just go pick up a plate, fill it up and start eating. whereas in Hiatt Baker they ask for your card everytime..so guests hav to end up paying 4-5 quid for a HORRIBLE meal..yeah true..hiatt baker food sucks...churchill food is alrit. Dunno abt other halls
