Argh....Wills or CHH...undecided:s-smilie:

Lol. How important is being close to your department to you?

Not that important...but ensuite, facilities (eg. laundry), and good food are the most important.
Well, although I'm hugely biased (I was in Wills for my first year and loved it), Wills seems to fit the bill better for you...

Just depends whether you can manage the 30 minute walk every day.
Hi, I live in Bath but want to live in Bristol but want to have my car at random times so i would kind of a like to live in some self-catered halls where I can park my car reasonably safely. Also, can you park on the site or not? At the Open Day they said its not advisable but I have heard of some people who do. Thanks
Quick question. I'm hearing things like 40min walking from residences to departments. Do people REALLY walk that long before class???? Are there like shuttle busses, local busses, or is it like a guarantee that Bristol students lose weight first year? :|

Your walk can be anything between a minute (if you live in the Hawthornes) and half an hour if you live in Stoke Bishop. 40 mins is taking it a bit far - I don't walk particularly quickly and I can do it inside half an hour. It really isn't that bad, the only annoying things are doing it in the rain, and the fact that you lose an hour each day to Whiteladies Road. There are local buses running up and down the road, but tbh, traffic in bristol means that they can take just as much time as walking.

The majority of first years live about 35 min walk away at the Stoke Bishop Halls.

If you really didn't want the walk though you could apply to one of the Clifton Halls, or failing that most of the student houses are nearer by.

Yeah I could.. I might :P Though it does sound like a nice exercise, I dread rain and soggy pants.

I got drenched yesterday, but in some bizarrely masochistic way it's kind of fun. You could have good chats on the walk, and it is my main source of exercise! Plus the downs are gorgeous.

LOL I love the way you put it ;P I guess theres plusses for being around a lot more people, but then minuses for being so far from the departments?..Oh the decisions.. thanks  I'll keep what you said in mind

Lol, no problem. The trek to departments can be a pain, especially if you have a 9AM lecture/live in HB and have to walk up a hill just to get to the downs. If you went to a Clifton Hall you'd probably meet just as many people as you would in SB.
I quite like the look of Durdham Hall. Apart from the distance from the university, are there any other negatives or, if you can think of any overwhelming positives, that would be appreciated too. Thanks

Durdham, more like Dullham! Har har!

Nah, its a cool place. No REAL negatives; every hall has faults. Quite a close knit community if thats your thing...

Goldney's really popular, people really seem to like it. You know all the halls should have their own sites? Just google 'Goldney Hall University of Bristol' and that should take you straight to it. Even Wikipedia might have stuff.
Bit of an odd question here -

Can you start applying for accomadation asap? Or is there usually a set date from which you can start (I know at Exeter it's like April 14th or so)

They'll send you a pack out with details etc., including a PS form to fill out. It'll be about....late June I'd guess.

NB: this is for firm Bristol applicants only.
Ah right - so it doesn't matter when you accept it as your firm then or whatnot? They all get sent out roughly around the same time - so long as it's before the July deadline I guess?
