Hard to judge, it simply depends on the year. It might be in your year that they get more applicants than places, or that they have some places left over.

Why is University hall undersubscribed? It looks okay to me... I might choose it to be safe. Are the rooms horrible or something?

I'm sure in the accomodation prospectus there was a diagram of the number of places to the number of applicants.

There's nothing wrong with uni hall at all. It's probably not the nicest looking and is one of the Stoke Bishop Halls which is furthest away, but otherwise it's fine. Cheap too!

Hmm... I will have to look at manor, goldney and university hall when I go to the open day next wednesday.
If I don't greatly prefer Goldney over Manor, I might choose Manor because that way I am almost gaurenteed a uni which is near uni and reasonably pretty (if not as pretty as Goldney).

Thanks for your help :smile:
Do they really send all accomodation prospectuses out around may? Cuz i'd have more time around now to the end of april, my exams are in may :s-smilie: I wouldn't have time to fill out the form and make important decisions.

Make the decisions now, then you can just fill the form in when it comes to May, and you will know the answers :smile:
What do they look for in the statement thingy???

The rooms are the smallest of the stoke bishop halls unless you get a en suite room in which case its up there with the old quad of wills. Uni hall is great though, I've had some great nights there - you might not like it if your from a private school though, dunno. Also your in flats of 5 so if you don't like your flatmates your not gonna have as much fun.

Just write about your interests, music you like and such. Dont lie about stuff since its used to decide who to group you with on floors/flats and you might hate it if you make yourself out to be a triathlon runner or something when youd rather watch tv and end up in a flat with 4 really sporty people.
I have an accomodation related question: on the Bristol website, it mentions something about it being less likely that you will get accommodation/the accommodation of your choice (I forget which exactly) if you have an insurance uni. Does anyone know how strict they are on this? Did any current students who got the accommodation of their choice keep an insurance? I'm wondering whether I should risk it...
thanks :smile:

Are you sure it doesn't say 'if Bristol IS your insurance'?

:ditto: That would make more sense if they meant it with the intention of Bristol being your insurance and not your firm choice.

Hmm, that'd definitely make more sense, but on their website it says:

The University will only make one offer of accommodation.

The guarantee does not apply to students who:

* miss the application deadline
* have not firmly accepted their offer of study
* have Insurance offers
* live in the Bristol area
* have previously studied at the University

Oh God, they didn't have that when we applied. The best thing you can do is phone/e-mail and ask. If that is a clause it's a really pants one. There's a lot of talk that they're making adjustments to the way the accommodation system works here, so I guess that could be one of them. It sounds so unfair though - almost everyone has an insurance offer.

I've heard they really don't have enough rooms this year and theres still a huge waiting list etc etc but if they were really that desparate, I know a fair few people who have a double room to themselves, people who were allowed to stay on a second year and theres an empty room where I live (the person living there was sick so has had to suspend her studies for a year and the chucked her out! Now they don't even have anyone paying any rent there)
The accomodation really doesn't make much sense.
The 'have Insurance offers' thing reads to me like 'have Insurance offers at Bristol'.
I thought it meant having Bristol as your insurance, but now it looks like they mean you can't have an insurance...

However, as long as the uni is your firm, it doesn't make a difference if you have an insurance or not to the accomadation. You eather miss the grades and go into clearing, or you miss the grades and go to insurance uni. Either way, makes no difference.

That makes me think that the words they used were just confusing...
Bristol seems very confusing at times - If I miss the grades I'm screwed cause I have exactly the same offer from my insurance uni (i only really applied to two) but my offer is literally (a B in any subject) so unless I do something really awful in the exams ill be fine.

It means people whose Bristol offers are their Insurance... common sense is key.

Well it sounded confusing :p: Where've you been all term, eh?

I thoguht this was pretty obvious - no idea how everyone got so confused :p:

It's like all Uni's you get to make accomadation choices if it's your firm, if it's your insurance you're pretty much left with what there is left.
