Really cause i've heard the exact opposite from a lot of people. It's apparently the most 'cliquey' hall in bristol to the extent that people from other groups find it difficult to talk to each other.
On the other hand i've also heard their food is exceptional so i guess thats a bonus...
Hmm, well its only the impression I get from having visited friends there - maybe my friends there are all in the same clique! In fairness though, it's kind of natural for people to form cliques. After the upheaval of going to university people like to settle down with a group they feel comfortable with.

agreed but then theres a difference between one settling with a comfortable group and one refusing to talk to anyone else who isnt in 'their group.' Unfortunatly I've got the strong impression that a lot of people in CHH are the latter

Well the people will change each year, so the make-up/atmosphere of the hall could be completely different.
lol, well if burnt on grease doesn't scare him, nothing will
That is true... but would you mind being in the small accomadation/university hall?
The problem is I would mind... so I think I better go for the safe option lol
I'm just going to put Goldney first and then put a less subscribed place next, probably Richmond Terrace... Just go for what you want, not what you think you'll get.
I am now swinging towards applying there because I could not take getting rejected by Goldney and being put in a students house
I don't think I am prepared to take the risk for a pretty garden, and a building that was in skins *Sniff*
I've only been to Manor a couple of times, but personally I prefer the idea of it to Goldney. Goldney is sposed to be lovely, but I'm just not keen on accommodation arranged in flats, it seems to make it harder to meet people.

Yeah, that was another thing. Though there did seem like an aweful lot of people per kitchen in Manor.
Btw, when I went to the open day it did not look like on the internet. Do students use the back enterence or something?
This question probably seems obvious, but could someone please briefly explain the differences between a hall being arranged as flats and as a hall, and why people say it is harder to meet people in the former.

Thanks x
Not hall, corridoor.
Basically, on a corridoor there will be many rooms, and many people sharing a kitchen. Thus, you have a higher chance of bumping into different people and meeting ones you like.
In a flat there are fewer people (8 maybe, not sure), and so there is a higher chance you will not like any of them, and it is harder to make friends with people who you are not close to (location wise).
Just think particle collision theory... Higher density of particles (people), more likely a collision (meeting) and more likely a successful collision (talking) and a reaction (friendship).
I don't agree with the point that it's harder to make friends with people outside your flat; I was in goldney last year and now live with girls who all lived 3 blocks away from me. I know loads of people who don't live with the people from their flat- there's so many social activities arranged and so many chances to meet loads of people you're bound to make friends outside your flat.

But it is harder if your shy
Of course it is not impossible.. but still, I would suggest shy people go in corridoors. Just my opinion though
Planning on choosing accommodation tonight, but my kind internet won't seem to let me download the accommodation prospectus on Bristol's website... anyone know where else I can view/download it from?
So, OK, how is the Hawthorns set out? I mean, it houses 116 people... surely that's just as good as being in halls?
You'd think so but alas it isn't. It's part of orbital so is therefore a student house and thats how a lot of people there act (similar to winkworth house). But the rooms are HUGE and for some being so ridiculously close to the university is very appealing however if your view of the first year is to get socially as much out of it as possible, the hawthorns isnt for you.
