I just hate it when people assume you dont speak much of English because you're Asian.. it kills me.

I don't assume that AT ALL. I would never make that assumption, that would be idiotic. I'm speaking only of the experiences my friends and I have had in halls. I think there's a distinction to be made between the kinds of people on this forum who are clearly very excited and willing to go out and make friends in the same way as everyone else when they get to Bristol, and those who choose to seek out friends who speak the same language and are to nervous or shy to get involved with everyone else, and it has been the latter that I was referring to.

Oh no no I wasn't talking about you at all! I was talking in general :] But I do agree that some people tend to stick with their nationalities. It's happened in every international school I've been at. I always have a main group of friends mixed with LOTS of nationalities but I still have friends in like a primarily Japanese group.. I guess theres also a distinction, like talespirit said, between those who are used to moving around (international SCHOOL students) and those who aren't (international students).. though thats a generalisation for those who aren't used to it but loves to make friends outside their nationalities XD
Can we talk about accommodation again?

What are the halls like on visitors? I know some uni halls dont let visitors in after X time which is a bit annoying if you have a friend over staying or something.

Fine, certainly at Wills at least, and I'm sure the others are the same. I think technically you're sposed to notify them that people are coming, but no one ever does.
Do you mean can we talk about cillit bang again? The topic being discussed was relevant to accommodation, and frankly more interesting than all the worrying and the minuscule unimportant questions which will be answered if people could just relax and actually wait for the university to send you the accommodation prospectus. With every intake I see the students on here getting more and more stressed out about really trivial things which will sort themselves if you give them time, and it's such a shame.

Anyway, back to your question cryptor. Halls generally aren't too bothered about guests; obviously a lot of people are going to be bringing people back from clubs and stuff in first year, and having friends come and stay over or visit. You're supposed to sign guests in in most halls (i think), but you can generally get away with not bothering. In Goldney, if you wanted to hire a mattress for your guest, you had to sign them in and leave a deposit and such, so obviously in those circumstances, you have to let them know. You'll be coming in with the visitor you're bringing anyway, and since you can get in any time, there's no issue about them coming in.

yes, lets do that.
at HB you're meant to put in a visitors form, but no-one ever does.... and you can hire a camp bed for a pound...

Random and unimportant question, but was just looking through the 2007 accommodation prospectus on the website and Goldney claims to have a "library/music room". How on earth are those complementary?
It's a room with a grand piano and a selection of books. If someone's not playing the piano, you may wish to sit and read books; if someone is playing the piano, you may wsh to borrow a book to return later...tada!

Whats goldney halls like to live in? The piano would really attract me to there.
i think there's a piano in quite a few of the halls, especially the catered ones, i mean, theres a grand piano and a couple of other pianos in Hiatt Baker...
Bristol sent me an email confirming that they've recieved my accomodation form!

EDIT: on a random note...cillit Bang is actually called Easyoff Bang here in Thailand....interesting~*
What is there in the Hawthorns other than the rooms, then?

You mean I don't even have to buy the Cillit Bang?

*Puts Hawthorns as first choice*

Not hall, corridoor.

Basically, on a corridoor there will be many rooms, and many people sharing a kitchen. Thus, you have a higher chance of bumping into different people and meeting ones you like.

In a flat there are fewer people (8 maybe, not sure), and so there is a higher chance you will not like any of them, and it is harder to make friends with people who you are not close to (location wise).

Just think particle collision theory... Higher density of particles (people), more likely a collision (meeting) and more likely a successful collision (talking) and a reaction (friendship).

Thanks. It seems to me however, that most of the self-catered halls are arranged in flats. Which are the ones that aren't?
Hey, can anyone tell me how students commute from Wills Hall, is there a bus?
Im really stuck on where to choose, I want en suite accomidation and im not to fussed whether they are catered or not.
