See my problem is I don't want to go catered which kind of rules out the apparently more 'sociable' halls. I'm not really looking for peace and quiet but it seems there's no other option!

goldney and manor are self catered and really sociable..manor's cheaper than goldney and in clifton which is a bonus.

i never got that letter!
and yeah, i'm overseas student, too. So does it mean I'm applying in May?

That letter, i believe, came with a booklet advertising the Bristol Law Club....so it may be something the law department organized.

I'm sure it's fine for you to apply in May, the same deadline applies for everyone so there's really not much to worry about. My application form would probably sink to the bottom of the pile by the time everyone else's come in.

I'm also an Overseas student residing in the UK but never heard from Bristol after deciding the Firm choice in early March :|....

Same, never heard from Bristol after accepting their offer Firmly in March
But in the letter they said that it is better to apply for accomodation as soon as possible, so I guess i'm applying now... should've done that ages ago

You can't apply until may, unless your offer is unconditional. They will send you details about accomadation once it is possible to apply.

Nope, they aren't too keen on letting unconditionals apply either  . And I think we only get the prospectus in May - and then can apply June onwards.

Are you home or overseas? if not overseas, then YOU guys apply in May (that's what I think)
because i had different letter saying that I can apply whenever I want (before the deadline)

Overseas students can start applying anytime from now to like...august something...we have different deadlines...and yes you can start applying now, if on the letter there's a link, that's where you go for the form. I already applied

But when people go on about how such a hall is more socialable. Do you reckon this is actually good for shy introverts >.<

I like the idea of a place being socialable, but not if it means that I'll probably be excluded due to my quiet nature. Then again I probably should have expected that I'd be outcasted somewhat for being a teetotal. =/

yeah, thanks, just wanted to double check
what did you put in your personal statement?

Are the en-suites in Richmond Terrace and The Hawthorns good? what are the halls like?
Reply 1931
What's the stance on Hawthorns? At the moment I think it's a toss up between there and University for my second choice. I prefer the look of Hawthorns (purely based on the accommodation prospectus for last year) but is the general consensus that it's better to be in a hall whatever? Does it make a big difference being in a house, even a reasonably large looking one with over 100 people?
Reply 1932
I also want to know more about the Hawthorns
I'm kinda thinking between Hawthorns and Richmond Terrace for my 2nd choice- which has better rooms (en-suites) and the pros and cons of the location

Just abit about me, what kinds of activities do i get involved in (or want to get involved in). What my interests are, my character and attitude, how i get along with people from various backgrounds. And how i study hard (my bro's hall almost kicked him out for failing 2 modules, so i stressed the fact that i have a history of academic excellence). And tell them how well behaved i am.

I also added a little "I love animals" because based on some of the sources on TSR my target hall has hall pets....lol!

Don't worry. You hear a lot about 'party halls' or whatever but it just isn't the case. Whilst sometimes a particular stereotype may predominate, you are going to find all types of different people in any hall with a fair number of people, so you'll find a group wherever you are.

08/09 prices are up...

i made myself stick to a limit of no more than 92 a week, and Goldney's gone up to 97! ouch.
Crikey.

Hopefully this'll reduce the demand for Goldney, AND LET ME GET A PLACE
Expensive.... Waah :frown:
I'm not touching any of the catered halls. HB is barely there. @_@

i might have to go for Manor now!
I'm hoping to leech that money (the price which had gone up) from the Uni itself from the Overseas scholarship
