i don't fear dying.. because if i do, i do.. there's nothing i can do about it, when my number is up, my number is up..

i just want it to be quick and painless...

i am also one of those people who would like to know when,. and how i will die.. but thats just me i guess
Couldn't care less myself...

I have a fear of getting old, wearing diapers that kind of thing. But actual death doesn't scare me, maybe because I've had a lot of people die around me, I've just become used to the idea that one day it'll be my turn as well.

It's irrational to fear something so definate! There is something so comforting about knowing one day you'll just slide off to the unknown, to be embraced by your final ending  That no matter what fears or how alone/sad/stressed we may feel now there will be a time when it won't matter.

Do you have any personal belief in an afterlife op? (Sorry if you've said before, its late and I'm too lazy to read whole thread )

I'm terrified of the deaths of the people I care about (though fortunately it doesn't cross my mind much). I'm surprisingly unbothered by my own mortality though.

In addition - how many people clicked on this thread just because they didn't know what "thanatophobia" was? I was one of them!

Yeah me too

Funnily enough, I'm not scared of dying in pain, the dying process, I'm just scared of the actualy being dead part.

who here also suffers from hypochondria?
I'm definatly not scared of death, although I'd prefer it not to happen any time soon I just feel that once I'm dead I won't be caring too much anyway.
Dammit, I made a long and eloquently argued point about fear of death not counting as a phobia, and then realised it was actually merde. Shame.

I'm not scared of death at all - I don't believe in an afterlife, and I think that if we started out as nothing before we were conceived, then it won't matter if we return to nothing once we die. I'm only scared of the actual dying part.

To me it's not comforting though. I wouldn't mind continuing in life, even if it was just my mind continuing or head like in Futurama or something  . I always view afterlife as blackness and nothing there, yet my mind is there. So I don't guess fear of the unknown.

I stumbled across this whilst looking up other people's views on death anxiety (or thanatophobia) (although i am no stranger to TSR). My main fear at the moment stems from the idea, as many have, of not existing....i simply can not grasp this fact (i know i didn't exist before i was born, but it's not the same),and the concept terrifies me beyond belief

Ditto. Doesn't terrify me, though I'm not exactly pleased with the idea I won't be around to experience the future beyond my death,
Did not have a clue what that meant.

Now I do, and having read replies to this, I would say that anyone who says they do not fear death have probably never considered the issue.

Everyone fears death. To not is to be psychopathic (it's not normal). Like every fear however, you need to look it in the face if you ever want to conquer it.

Though I definitely do not recommend you open up coffins to do this
Anon because I don't want friends on here to worry about me.

Death terrifies me. The not existing part. People that say well it'll be just like before you were born - that scares me more! I think about it everyday and sometimes feel like I'm going to have a panic attack but always manage to calm myself down.

Death is my worst fear. Just the thought of not existing and there being nothingness forever. Like, just imagine before you were born. Well, you can't because it was nothing. And that's what death will be like and I can't even comprehend it. I have panic attacks about it every day and I can't sleep; it's actually ruining my life.

Are u afraid of dying young or afraid of dying even at old age?
