RAF legal officer advise /opinions?

Hi forum

I have a few questions about this vocation. I was looking into legal careers upon competion of my degree and I came across this. I used to work in the MoD as a civil so I have had a little bit of experience in this area.

The legal side of the military is hugly interesting. I was wondering if anyone had had any dealings with RAF legal officers or is one themselves. Would be fantastic if you could offer some genuine insight such as wages, working hrs, what the training is like physical and legal. The variation of the work and do you enjoy it.

I want to make sure I undertake the maximum level of research as there is a min 6 years service.

If anyone could offer any advise or opinions that would be fantastic! Thank you

Have you read this? Hours are mostly 8-5 unless you are needed for something specific or you are on ops, then you work until not needed. Training is the same for other pre-qualified Officers - short course at RAFC Cranwell.
Have a search through, I've commented on the branch a few times. I'm not a lawyer and I can't really comment on the legal career side of things, but there seem to me to be two distinct sides of the branch, the courts martial side of things, defending/prosecuting within the military system and then the LOAC advisor in HQ, which is a rapidly growing area (or has grown rapidly in recent years, may not still be growing).

Because it is such a small and specialised branch, it is much more open to requests for information, so if you can find anyone called SO2 (Legal) or SO1 (Legal) say at High Wycombe, contact them and they are likely to tell you a lot more.

Hi there,

I am doing my PhD resarch on military lawyers in the RAF and the USAF. I am having difficulty tracking down exactly who the lawyers in the legal branch are at the RAF. Could anybody provide me with assistance, please? Are they housed at High Wycombe? I'm particularily interested in their international operations, especially the fascinating role they have played in Afghanistan. I too have heard that the unit has been growing recently - and I need to know more for my research, so any pointers would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't help much more than that. I've been out a while now and I don't have any specific contacts. Google is likely to be your friend, or go and ask in an AFCO.
