A battery charger is used to recharge a cell of e.m.f 1.5V and internal resistance 0.50 ohms. The e.m.f of the battery charger is 6.0V and its internal resistance is 1.0 ohms.

combined voltage is 7.5V
combined resistance is 1.5 Ohm
current is voltage over resistance = 7.5/1.5 = 5 A
just draw a circuit with the power supply and the resistor as seperate things, and like normal you add the voltages to get the total voltage, and add resistors in series.

Because the supply is charging the battery, wont the voltages be in opposite directions? so effective voltage = 4.5V and current = 3A
