How do you pronounce Purkinje?

How does one pronounce 'Purkinje'?

My biology teachers always pronounced it 'purk-ine', as do the electrophysiologists I work with, so I always assumed that was the standard prnounciation.

However following a disagreement with a friend on the topic last night, we looked it up on wikipedia, and then in merriam-webster and somewhere else, and they all said either 'purk-inyee' or 'purk-injee'.

I thought it used to be Purkinje and they changed it to Purkyne?
All my lecturers say "pur-kin-jee", and so did my biology teachers.

As a medical student who had never heard of this before medical school (not covered in the scottish system), it is pronouced purk-in-jee

i get this from all the consultants etc. that have given us lectures including it
We had a guest lecturer from the physiological society today and he pronounced it purk-in-jee. Though it is a name, so find someone called purkinje and ask them (which would be very cool in my opinion)

Well if it's pronounced like the physiologist that it's named for (which I suppose it should be!) it would be poor-kin-yeah/yay.

Interesting...
Personally: purk-injee. Thats how my teachers pronounced it, so, it sorta sticks.
