Cambridge or UEA

this is such a tough decision. Both are in the same geographical region of the country- an area where i wud like to go since it is close (but not too close to london - my home town).

The cambridge course is much more work than the UEA course so is it really worth it.

What do u tihnk of the respective job prosepects?

Also at cambridge it is very unlikely ill be top of the year...but UEA it is much more likely......therefore my chances of getting a first are actually higher (if that makes sense).

What accomodation is better?

At cambridge u have to accept catered food...since cooking facilites are few and far between.

please help..this is such a dilemma

UEA - A no brainer really

What's the point of this thread? It is obvious that you should go to UEA - it's far more respected in the economics world.

are you really sure about that? not everything is based on the position of the university in the most recent subject league table.

Tough choice, although having slept on it, id say UEA. Employers dont care what uni you've been to or what degree or have or what class it is, all they look at is what you are like as a person. Plus UEA has one of the best graduate employment rates (never mind the fact that most ppl will end up working as a cleaner)....lol, im starting to sound like AT.

really tough question but in the end i think its UEA
guaranteed job as mentioned above
very good reputation
and yeah you will top
by the way why dont you try University of East London its even better then UEA, and you r gonna luv it, and if u dont want to live in east london, try buckinghamshire chiltrens university another top place to study really.

You forgot Greenwich University which has an unquestionable reputation

I was considering UEA for my course but decided against it because it was too far away. However, I was very impressed with the university itself - excellent facilities and a nice atmosphere.

If it was me, I would choose UEA because I think I would be happier there but it all depends how important league tables are to you  Personally, I value my potential happiness and hence likelihood of doing well rather than league table results.

It depends - I'm at UEA but if i'd have had the chance to go to Cambridge Uni I would have gone for it. I'm not faulting UEA - I love it here - but Cambridge is in a different league. Do you think you'd make your Cam offer (I am assuming you do mean Cambridge University rather than APU in Cambridge)? The accomodation at UEA is brilliant, the facilities are all good and its got a good reputation, just not the same as Cam. And don't think it'll be easier to get a first here, UEA is one of the toughest universities to get a first at (according to our student paper), you still have to work extremely hard.

I think you guys are being unfair to Cambridge. I mean OK, it doesn't have the same history or 'reputation' (whatever that means) as UEA, and of course the big two (UWE and UEA aka UWEA) get all the extra funding from the government - but if you want to go somewhere where the posh mummy's boys won't spit on you and where 5 out of every 6 people went to a private school, pick Cambridge.

Often I think people fall in love with the idea of going to UWEA with their dreamy concrete blocks and wonderful 20th century architecture, but they forget that once you are there, you could have lectures as often as once every weekday! You will be working your ass off. Now Cambridge on the other hand, are much more relaxed - after all, you are only there 24 weeks of the year! Cambridge is much cooler and less stressful.

What I'm saying is, don't just assume one should go to UEA just because of its reputation! There is more to life than being number 1 at everything!

Wtf??? Where did UWEA come from? UWE = University of West of England, in BRISTOL, UEA = University of East Anglia in NORWICH. They are completely separate universities at the opposite end of the country to each other. And i'll think you're wrong about 'being spit on' if you're not from a private school, the majority of students at UEA are state educated and it makes no difference. In terms of history, UEA is 40 years old, as opposed to some Cambridge colleges being hundreds of years old. And Cambridge University is the top uni in terms of league tables, I don't think UEA has quite the same reputation. Also, even though Cambridge only has 24 weeks of term a year, lots of people have saturday lectures, and you actually probably work harder as you have more supervisions with work to do every week for them. I think you're very confused.

But if the poster is being serious, then a bunch of sarcastic replies is not helpful to them is it?

Reply 17

dont believe UEA is winning...this poll is a joke. Maybe everyone thinks its a joke, and are taking the piss by voting for UEA - well its a viable theory isn't it:biggrin:
