For that essay you would have to select moments in the novel and explain how they are critical of war through their horrid descriptions.

One quote I can remember is "So much blood and muscle in the earth" which I suppose is rank. There will be various moments throughout the war sections along this line.

One bit that particularly sticks out for me is Douglas' death in Part Two, where there is something like a shell jutting out from his ribcage and another person badly injured falls off a stretcher. There is a good quote there along the lines of his life pouring away.

Possibly, you could use the moment when Stephen sees Isabelle's scar, it isn't partiuclarly disgusting but it shows how a once beautiful thing has been somewhat disfigured by war.
