I have a UTI! HELP! SO MUCH PAIN!!!!

I went to the doctors today and she told me I had a UTI (urinary tract infection) and she gave me some antibiotics and told me to drink plenty of water.

What I want to know is how long will the pain involved in urinating last (roughly)? I really can't take it anymore it brings me to tears everytime :frown:

Can anyone suggest anything that may ease the burning sensation?

(sorry I misspelled it :p:)

Surely that would be UTI?
Sorry, no helpful advice to give but hope it gets better doesn't sound pleasant at all

It should stop hurting pretty quickly, but you just have to grin and bear it really! Drinking cranberry juice can help somewhat...

Just keeping drinking water, and try to stay calm when u go toilet, maybe sit singing while peeing to distract yourself.

I've had one before (I didn't have any pain though), I think my anti-biotics were for 7 days and then it was fine, so hopefully it won't be too much longer!

I don't know if there is much that can be done to ease the pain until the infection is gone. Just make sure you take your antibiotics right up until the very last tablet- whether or not you feel better before you finish the course, you must make sure you take them all or it will come back even quicker.

Also yeh it is called a UTI, think you are getting mixed up between UTI and STD.

Only thing i can think of is drink cranberry juice but i don't know if you are meant to drink that before you get ill or after.

Lol uti love..

look, im not being funny..but just relax, you can't be in that much pain as you can still manage to sit up and go on tsr lol

I find with patients suffering from uti's, cranberry juice works..although there is no proven scientific risk lol, on top of this heat therapy- a hot water bottle to your stomach, also try taking paracetamol and ibuprofen together for pain relief and relieving the inflammation. On top of this, take your antibiotice if given them. Finally, prevention for the future, after going to the loo wipe yourself from front-back, the urethra is rather short and near the anus, hence why as women we get so many infections, femfresh is a rather good product too.
It can take a while for the antibiotics to kick in, just be patient, relax...and keep yourself hydrated

You can get cystitis relief sachets from most chemists that contain an alkaline substance such as sodium citrate to neutralise the acidity of your pee - this is what causes the burning sensation. Other than that, just drink as much water as you can physically manage to dilute your urine, and cranberry juice will help the infection clear up faster and keep it away once it's cured. Take some painkillers to dull the pain and try and get some sleep. I had a recurrent UTI a couple of summers ago and always felt better after a good night's sleep. Are you on a three day course of trimethoprim?

Great post but wouldn't you agree that any products marketed for vaginal cleansing are a bad idea as they'll disturb the natural flora? Thrush is hardly a preferable alternative to a UTI!

Yes, I am on trimethoprim, but I'm on a 7 days course because my doctor said it was quite a bad one :frown:

I don't think so, i used to suffer so much from uti's, and since using it i've not had any problems with thrush, vaginal issues..nothing, it's been nice! I wouldn't sugges to use it inside the vulva, however, on the outside, eg pubic hair, where bacteria collect etc is a good idea!

I had a lecture today on the urinary system so now an expert!

OMG, I had that...I was also close to crying ! It is soooo painful . Like someone said earlier, finish the course of tablets, even if you feel better( or else it will not go away?) and just wait it out...don't think there's much you can do.

antibiotics???? you should take antibacteriotics! drink a lot of water, avoid tea and coffee, and v.v.v.v.important- dont hold it- when you feel like you need to wee- run to the toilet  if you gonna hold it then bacteries gonna grow and its not gonna get any better... and keep it clean

try not no drink anything like orange juice, lemon juice, coke etc for some time (at least when ure taking the antibacteriotics)

Don't stop yourself from going to toilet even if it hurts loads! I'm no expert but drink water, and finish those tablets and it should go away
I've only ever had one once but oh my God, so much pain! ...Then I got a kidney infection which was even more pain, then I had a reaction to the tablets I was taking for that and ended up in hospital for a few days because my blood pressure was so low I couldnt stand without fainting

I hope you feel better soon!

The urethra is further away from the vagina... so it isn't really that close.

Staying in bed with a hot water bottle helps. Drink as much water as you can. I can't think of now.

....ok, and you're training to be a nurse and have seen many vaginas in your time? there is a reason why women get loads of infections..
in reality its about an inch away, and with going to the toilet, wiping yourself, plus a short urethra..it's very prone
