A-levels is a qualification you do in year 12/13. An AS level is a year 12 qualification which is the first half of the A-level. A2 level is the second half of the A-level and done in year 13. Therefore, after doing AS and A2, you get an A-level. You will need at least 3 A-levels to enter university.

Here we call them exam boards and not government body. GCSE and A-level exam boards are: http://www.aqa.org.uk http://www.ocr.org.uk http://www.edexcel.org.uk http://www.wjec.co.uk
These websites contain specifications/syllabuses of what the course are about. Some websites have past papers and mark schemes too.
