400mg of ibruprofen every 8 hours. and keep moving your head about gently turning it from side to side, up and down, round and round etc. keep doing them every hour for the next few days and it will hopefully get better.

edited - dosage thought to be a liiitle high
edited - dosage lowered again to packet specifications of what is safe

800mg of ibruprofen every 6 hours. and keep moving your head about gently turning it from side to side, up and down, round and round etc. keep doing them every hour for the next few days and it will hopefully get better.

You shouldn't take more than 1200mg in a day (6 200mg tablets, or 3 400 mg tablets). This was always the advice I had to give out when I worked in a pharmacy. Moving the head about may do more damage than good. Please don't follow this advice - go and see a professional.

Go to the hospital.

I was in a quite a bad car crash a few years (ironicaly our Fiat Punto saved us from serioius injury, thery are very good in side on collisions) my back was a bit bad for about a week after, the paramedics told us to go hospital, there was loads of police cars, fire engines, ambulances at the scene so it was a bad accident.

It the pain went after a few days and I have been fine since.

You really MUST go to the hospital (or failing that ,your GP) - if you were involved in a car accident, then you may be able to get the cost of treatment etc paid by the insurance company... but they won't pay out if you didn't report it very quickly.
It may be that there will be some lasting effect (hopefully not) but, if there is, you may be able to get some compensation or further treatment... I don't really want to encourage the litigation culture that seems to have spread from the US, but, it's only sensible to get yourself checked out and the earlier the better.

They can give you advice, different/more painkillers. They can help treat/relieve as well as diagnose!

What about the college doctor/nurse. DO report it officially, even if it means getting a proper appointment in a day or so - quite honestly the doctor ought to make you an emergency appointment, if you are in pain and you explain that to the receptionist. If there is no-one at your doctors then phone NHS direct and they will ensure that you can talk to a doctor.

that's what the hospital told me when I had whiplash but I admit I'm not an expert. ibruprofen is good cos it's anti-inflammatory.
