No it's not the same thing. Paracetamol doesn't have the anti-inflammatory properties that ibuprofen does.
They do share some properties though. Both are analgesics and erm... temperature-lowering (can't remember the proper word for it).

Why would you take painkillers for no reason? especially one a day. that will do nothing whatsoever except possibly peeve off your body

You certainly shouldn't be taking paracetamol every day I don't think.

No, not at all. They are both analgesics (pain killers) but from completely differnt families of drugs.

Ibuprofen is vaguely related to asprin and as well as killing pain is very good at reducing inflammation - useful for sprains, arthritis etc. Can be a bit rough on thr stomach lining in large or long term doses.

Paracetemol is good at reducing fever as well as killing pain, so good for 'flu and the like. Bad for the liver though, so don't overuse it (be careful not to take pain killers + cold remedies that both contain paracetemol.

For hangovers both work, but as alcohol also affects the stomach and liver you are best just putting up with the headache!

They are not the same - Paracetamol is an analgesic and anti-pyrexic, whereas ibuprofen is that as well as anti-inflammatory, a member of the NSAID drugs...You can take both together as they are different types of drug, but you musn't take them for long periods of time; para will lead to kidney/liver damage and ibu will lead to stomach ulcers and **** like that...If you think you need take pain medication long-term, go and see your doctor!!! (btw., waking up with a headache each morning could be a simple warning that you're dehydrated!!!)

well that would sound like a reason to take painkillers.
Go to the doctors if you always wake up with a headache. it might actually be an indication of a problem.

Ok, stop taking ibuprofen, if you take it regularly it seems to actually give you headaches. Try not to use it for a day or two.

I think the poster usually takes paracetmol though - ibuprofen was just a last resort.

But I agree, go to the doctor. My dad has headaches all the time and he takes co-codamol (and I get so angry at him for taking it because I know it can be addictive) but there's not much I can do cause he's a grumpy old man and would rather take pills than do something about the problem in the first place

whoa.
theres the problem right there
EVERYTHING you drink is making you more dehydrated. You don't really take on any amount of fluid from red bull and coffee.
Cut down the stimulants.
start drinking more water
get one of those ickle water bottles (500ml ones) and drink at least 3 volumes of it in a day.

Oh, in that case I'm surprised paracetamol fixes the headaches, does sweet FA for mine. Got to be ibuprofen or a massive aspirin dose...

Yes; that would almost certainly give you headaches! Try drinking water regularly during the day, and after the beer etc another pint before bed. See if that helps.
If not definitely see the doctor; in the meantime alternating packs of paracetamol and ibuprofen is probably better than sticking with one.
