Trouble with dry skin

I've been having trouble with very dry skin on the face. I try moisturising every day, but sometimes it's just not enough; sometimes I have to moisturise a few times at once to get anywhere! It's really annoying and I don't know if there is something different I should do, because nothing I have done so far has done the trick. The fact I have pretty sensitive skin doesn't help.

Does anyone have any advice?

use aftersun cream, that works a treat!
Im not sure if E45 works on your face, but is really good on arms and legs. Otherwise have a look at the Clinique Moisturiser for dry skin, as iv used the one for oily skin and its been good.

hmm i used e45 when i was on roaccutane, and that stops all skin from getting moisture, but aftersun works a treat as well

Aftersun sounds like a good way to go. I'll give that a go, and I'll try all your other suggestions too. Thanks very much everyone!
Try exfoliating once or twice a week to get rid of flaky bits(nice)...I like Boots Botanics Day Shift Moisture lotion also.
My skin is crazy dry, and I use an emollient called Cetraben, it's not very exciting but it's unperfumed and not too heavy, and works really well. Ask your doctor, and you might get it on prescription, which is what I do because then it's free!

i used to sleep close to the radiator, and as a consequence, i got dry skin on my forehead. I moved to the other side of my room and it stopped...
This is gonna sound TOTALLY stupid to anyone that reads this but, Im not usually this thick...

I've been decorating my room the past few weeks (Im a lazy worker!) and I was washing the paint brushes about 3 or 4 days ago using Turps... and forgot that turps isnt any good for your skin... while I was using the stuff, i got it all over my hands... it didnt hurt at the time, but when I tried to wash my hands later, it burnt like hell, and im a bit of a freak when it comes to being able to wash my hands... Anyway, since then my skin has been SOOOO dry... and I use this cream... I'm not sure what its called but you put it on thick, leave it for about a minute and then wash in warm water, and it removes all the dead skin, and like, the top layer... it sounds kinda sick but if you use it 2 or three times a day it gets rid... (like I said, I burnt my hands with turps and the skins nearly clear now, after being itchy and burning...)...

Im not sure this would be a good idea for FACIAL dry skin though... works a treat for hands, arms, legs and feet though...

I was about to say baby lotion. I use baby lotion for my body I have very dry skin, and I use nivea on my face because its too sensitive for baby lotion, I use the clinique 3 step plan but only use the moisturiser when I'm very dry because its too oily.

Lather on the nivea and be careful that you don't let your shampoo run down your face when you wash your hair because that can dry out your skin.
i have dry skin on my forehead as well which is horrid. i use nivea moisturiser and its definitely gone down alot. i only use it once before i put my foundation and make-up on.

this stuff is supposed to be awesome.

also, this lady caters for dry and sensitive skin

Also, dermatique have some impressive hints and products

Eucerin is fab and they do a great face wash for dry skin too.
As someone said, use the Eucerin dry skin relief cream. There's also a wash you can get too. It's deffinately one of the best things you can use, especially if you have Eczema or are just prone to dry skin.

It's quite expensive but it works.. you can get it from Boots & supermarkets and places like that.

What moisturiser are using?
What facial cleanser are you using? I hope youre not using soap.
What temperature water do you use?

I would avoid using petroleum-based moisturisers such as E45, glycerin is much better for moisture retention and wont leave the skin oily. It might be worthwhile using an additional protective moisturiser after youve cleansed and moisturised the face.

Of course, avoid using alcohol based products, or those with perfume or fragrance.

Other than that, the best advice is to drink plenty of water and eat fresh fruit and vegetables!

As someone said, Vaseline does work, but now the weather is warming up, it's not very comfortable now! I do wear Avon's tinted moisturiser, but I don't always wear it every day. It helps a little though (I love Avon stuff!!). And don't worry, I don't wash my face with soap. My skin doesn't agree with it.

I have to admit, today my skin isn't too bad, but it doesn't last :frown:
Thanks for everyone's advice  :tsr:
