How difficult are the normal offers Christ's give? I really like the look of the college, but the chance of me ever getting an easy offer are slim to none. The non-easy ones seem to be much harder than other colleges...

erm, i was pooled to Christ's for entry this year for Economics, and my offer is A in F.maths, A in geog, and A in either chem or biology. Ive already got an A in maths, which isnt part of the offer. so fairly hard, but not overly.

Awesome, thanks. I was just worried about applying and getting some crazy offer i couldn't get in a million years, which has happened to more than one person I know.

I've been looking at the information for Freshers 2009 on the Christ's college website here:
http://www.christs.cam.ac.uk/prospective-students/undergraduate-applications/freshers/

Has anyone else entering in Oct 2009 seen the bit about sending GCSE certificates:

It seems a bit weird that you have to send GCSE certificates, surely the information was all on UCAS when we applied.

Everything on UCAS you've entered yourself, so they need some official confirmation. It's just a formality, don't worry.

If you get an offer, it will be a realistic one - they don't make offers they don't think you're capable of getting.

BitTorrent is fine.

It is? I've been uninstalling it at the beginning of every term. Damn.

They certainly scan for filesharing progs. at the beginning of Michaelmas.

seriously? i cant just exit the programme and set it so it doesnt automatically start up when i turn my laptop on?
How do they scan your computer if it's in your room without any of their programmes installed? (Answer: they don't.)

You can do more than this, you can use it intensively every day, trust me. The only issue is that at the beginning of the year they will force you to run a programme that supposedly detects and uninstalls clients. But uTorrent takes about 14 seconds to re-download after that so it's not exactly a big deal...

I got my IB results yesterday, which turned out pretty good, but I still have a source of frustration since I got 43 points with 776 at HL, while the offer by Christ's was 42 and 777 at HL for History starting in October 2010 (gap year due to military service).

Now I'm wondering whether I should contact them, or wait until the A-levels results are published too.

Just decorative. Not that it's worth looking at, though
Haha, it isn't remotely "decorative"; it used to be used for swimming, but now it's too full of ****.

Great, Christ's did end up accepting me even though I didn't meet their offer, as according to them I still did "well enough" Now I can "happily" complete the rest of my military service during my gap year. I've been there fof 4 weeks and this is my 3rd day off  Well at least university shouldn't feel that bad after this

You lucky bugger - I'm still waiting. Guess I'll give them a ring in a week or so before they get showered in A-level people.

Hey - another historian! See you in a year, mate. (hopefully :s-smilie:)

EDIT: Saw your grades - you seem to have matched me exactly (I got 43 and 776 as well). Congratulations!

Hey everyone, I'm applying for Geography, haven't decided entirely which college, but Christ's seems the best at the moment...
So I was wondering if anyone knows whether I would be asked maths based questions at the interview? As on the Geography course requirements page they say "Christ's College gives preference to applicants with Mathematics at A level."
I do have Maths at A level(or the Finnish equivalent for it anyway), but it really isn't my strongest subject..
Any help appreciated! =)
No en suite despite I am going to pay 909 pounds. *sigh*

You might want to ask that in the geography subforum - or find a Facebook group for Geography freshers @ Cambridge. There should a helpful second year around around who can answer that question.

For instance: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8323906788&ref=search&sid=704845527.598798957..1

Send a polite FB mail to anybody in the group, and they'll either give you the info or direct you to somebody who can.

Hope this helps!

Same - what's your room number?

I'm 2/3
Z27. Are you sure? From the sheet we are given, 2/3 seems to has an en-suite.

Yeh it does have an ensuite. Sorry, I misread yours as something along the lines of:

'No! Ensuite so have to pay ....' rather than 'No ensuite but have to pay..'

Sorry.
