calling home!

I was wondering if Glasgow permits the use of VOIP software on their network. This includes but is not limited to AIM, YAHOO, or Skype.

I will need to make frequent overseas calls to CAN and the USA, so the use of a program such as the ones listed above would be great!

I have been told that some schools will attempt to block the use of such programs for a couple of reasons.

1) They would prefer that students use the landlines provided to them in their dorms.
2) VOIP programs consume a greater amount of bandwith and would slow down the network.

I lived in Murano and they claimed Skype didn't work on the basic, free internet package but I know people that used it.

If it doesn't work, you can upgrade to a higher internet package - it'd still be cheaper than paying for international calls.
