I'm new to UCL, was just wondering if there are any rooms where a drum kit, amp etc is available? I've got my own guitar but just wanna be able to have a jamming session with friends. Any of you know of any places like that?
As far as I'm aware, Live Music Soc doesn't really do anything like that. If they do then they've hidden their equipment and rehearsal space very well! The Jazz Soc has most of the equipment for that sort of thing, as well as room bookings in the Bloomsbury building for society-related bands. We keep our equipment in the Jazz Cupboard which is right next to the rooms we rehearse in.
It's not restricted strictly to jazz, but obviously if you don't like jazz then you probably shouldn't join If you're set on doing rock/indie type stuff then check out Live Music Soc (I might be wrong about their lack of equipment/rehearsal space), and also there tend to be music rooms in halls where you could play.
UCL is really poor for this I think. I have had some luck going to Commonwealth hall and using their practice room which has an amp and kit but it very much depends on who the security gaurd is and whether you can sweet talk him!

By the DR FUNK, have you been told about the jazz improv workshops? They're on Thursday afternoons in the bloomsbury. If you're free you should come along, it's really helpful stuff.

Cheers Mike, they do sound really good but unfortunately I have PDS/SSC every Thursday. Maybe after exams I will try and pop along.
Some of the halls have specific music rooms. You will have to show preference for such a hall on your accomodation application form in order to live in one.
