Hey my fellow forumers (if that's a word, please don't penalise me if it's not beacuse of the thread title lol). I was just wondering if it is possible to get an A* for English Language if I only have an A in the coursework folder. I have an A* for my literature coursework folder so I'm not too concerned about that at the minute, however I was just wondering if it is possible to get my language to that level too in the exams.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated. I have an A* for all of my Speaking & Listenings and I'm doing the Edexcel course if it helps.

Thanks a lot

Don't worry about it, I only got a B for my speaking and listening at GCSE English Lang and came out with a top 5 mark overall, so I highly doubt it will be a problem. Just do lots of practice papers and know the texts inside out and you'll be fine!

When you say "Top 5" do you mean top 5 in the country? If so, well done! I'd love to get top 5 in English (I have a passion for it! ).

Yeah, top 5 in the country . I was absolutely stunned. Then someone wrote to me from the home education magazine saying that she got top 5 marks in three of her subjects!

My friend's sister got in the top 5 for 2 of her subjects I think at GCSE. Is top 5, the top 5%?

It's top 5 out of all the people who took it, as in the top 5 candidates I think... there was never a percentage mentioned in the letter they sent me.

My friend got top 5 in English Lit.....he's still my friend.....just...hehe.

A lad in the year above me got in the top 5 for French last year (as our French teacher consistently reminds us!). He got something like 98% over all. And yes, I think he was literally in the top 5 candidates, rather than percentage of candidates.

But, yeah, congrats.

Wow! That is amazing if you think of the thousands of people that take the exams at one time.

I'm pretty sure it's close to impossible to get an A* if you have an A for coursework.

Oh my God, why would anyone do that? I feel sorry for her for being so boastful about it.

Yes, why would someone feel the need to do that?!

Practise your story writing skills-that was my downfall for enlish lang (A)! Also practise your summarising, my teacher gave us this tip-get all relevent points from the article, write them in a table on a separate sheet of paper and then write a summary from your notes to produce a short and concise summary. Finally get random articles from newspapers and pratise as many analysing qs as you can.

The best advice i can give is to revise all the anotation given to you by your teacher for your english language paper since you are not allowed to bring in a anotated copy anymore into the examination room - this is true for AQA dont know about any other boards but thats the best revision technique and know your 12 key poems extremely well!
Good luck xoxo

I didn't get less than an 'A*' for any piece of English-oriented work throughout the GCSE period. Really speaking, it was a complete doss.

That said, our teacher arbitrarily invented an 'A*-' classification, to denote "A* borderline" work. He also set us essays at twice-monthly intervals: I must've had at least fifty eligible English courseworks by the conclusion of my 2003 Summer term. Suffice to say, come that time, rival sets were pickled a quite lurid shade of green.

Good God... you really don't have to do that many copies... I just did one for each, and got full marks in all of mine. Tis crazy doing two a month! Pointless added stress I would've thought

original poster:I would think you could get an A* overall without an A* in c/w-if you do a good exam - as exam =more points
Well, I would like an A* in english lit and english lang. It's my target grade and my coursework is at A grade. Don't forget, the exam couts for alot more thanthe coursework. Idid two copies for each of my coursework
