Just wondering if there are many tanned, jack wills/abercrombie & fitch wearing rugby playing, mini cooper driving, daddy buys me everything etc. types at Birmingham uni?

If there are, I'll end up stabbing myself in the kidney with a spork.

Of course. There are some at every uni. But there will be nice normal people too
Quite a few yeah. Quite a few of the following template too: peroxide blondes with "messy" (i.e. spent half an hour getting it to look this unkempt) ugg boot and jogging bottom wearing rah girl types. Who are probably going to Barcelona this weekend to stay in the family apartment, because they have "nothing else to do". (actually met one who did that, so that's not an exaggeration).
But as SpamBa said still plenty of other people

Id say within a group of 25, theres probably about 2, but dont judge them like that, get to know them first, then decide (:

Plus.. the amount of toffs shouldnt really put you of any particular uni..
Oh yes. Everyone seems to be from London around here. Thoughhhhhh, some of them are extremely nice.
But yeah, there's a few mini coopers round maple bank. It's infuriating seeing them zoom off to uni every day lol.

There's a house of 9 of them next door to me :frown: More VW golfs parked outside than there are spaces!
Hundreds and hundreds , they seem to make up the majority of the student body tbh.

There are more "rahs/sloaneys/toffs" than "chavs" IMHO, which can only be a good thing!

this thread's a bit ridiculous - try finding any university in the top 30 or so which doesn't have rahs, toffs, sloaneys, chavs, goths, nerds, gays, lesbians, heterosexuals, tramps etc.

every decent university is likely to have a complete cross section of stereotypes of the 18-23 age bracket.

my experience at birmingham though was that it isn't nowhere near as sloaney as other universities might be. 99.9% of the people were normal and down to earth.

there was one rah girl in our year who brought a hamper of champagne into the mason lounge (IT suite in arts building) to celebrate with chums after handing in her dissertation. everyone who was there pointed and laughed; those who weren't heard about it and laughed. that sort of stuff is the exception rather than the norm at bham.

Agreeing with Anything4Nothing, bloody loads of rah's!

There are a lot of Rahs, Birmingham is quite a new money university. People is shiny new Uggs, Jack Wills, Havianas flip flops come rain or shine. But its all part and parcel of university life. Equally its subjective; some people think I'm a rah at Birmingham so who knows. There was nothing funnie rthan in my first year back in 2006 when it snowed and all the rah's on the Vale donned ski apparel; and skiied on the Vale. Hilarious

Hmm I would say yeah, and unfortunately this year there are lot in my accomodation block (and it's not Mason!).They make tons of noise at 4AM whenever they go out, even if people have 9AM classes/exams the next day, take people's stuff without asking and leave the place looking like a pigsty. If they lived anywhere other than Uni. accomodation, they would probably get ASBO's because they simply do not give a fuck about anyone apart from themselves. However, on the whole I'd say that there are plenty of normal, down to earth people as well (including Home county types);it just depends on who is around you.
