How good is Keele for law?

Hi all. I am in year 12 and am wanting to read law at uni. I am hoping to get into a very good uni and will be applying to a lot just below Oxbridge eg. Kings, UCL. Although i should get AAA at A level, i want to appl to at least one uni where i am sure i could get at least a AAB offer and have heard that Keele is a good uni for law and usually gives offers below AAA. However, i do want to get into a good uni that will allow me to get into a good chambers when i am older ( i want to be a barrister) and i want to know if Keele is good for law or if there are any better Uni's to apply to that would give below an AAA offer.

Thank you in advance

Law is one of Keele's stronger subjects and graduates generally do well in obtaining graduate jobs, the percentage that make it as a barrister however I'm less sure of. The department has a better research ranking than Warwick and for the first two years you would take a secondary subject, I would recommend something like Economics, Politics. The reason I mention these is that I imagine you would be required to justify your choice of university in interviews and the more 'complete' education and departmental strength may provide you material for convincing responses.

Law is really good at Keele and legal professionals like graduates from Keele, or that's what many of the barristers and solicitors I've met have said! Starting in September 09 I think there's the choice to take single honours from the start, but I haven't a clue how that will work as I'm on the older system where we have to take 2 subjects (we're the last year!). I got an email from the Law School today though asking if I wanted to drop my second subject or continue with it, so if you take 2 subjects you will probably be allowed to drop it after year 1. I'd recommend Politics or Criminology though as they offer you the flexibility of doing another subject whilst still graduating with a LLB.

Public Law II is incredibly boring though!!

You'll be competing with a lot of graduates from higher institutions and will have to work a lot harder to get training contracts, it's better than similar level institutions but it's not as good as some Keele law graduates would have you believe I'm afraid. I know a lot of Keele law graduates from last year who are struggling.

You really shouldn't use last years graduates as a indicator because of the recession. Companies are bound not to hire as many people.

Keele is very good for law as far as I'm concerned.

It gives a good indication of the ranking of graduates however, I do appreciate the economic climate (as an Economist) has a bearing on the job market. The impact upon law hires is less than in other areas and this is not an isolated incident.

Keele is good for law, but if you go here to do law get involved and work hard. Just scraping a 2.1 isn't enough, get at least a solid 2.1 and preferably a 1st with some good extra-curriculars.
