Oh I've that many times. Randomer: So, are you from *insert the halls I'm at/my friend I'm with is from here*? Me: No, I'm at Cheney. Randomer: OOOOHHHH Cha-nayyyyy? Chateau de Chanaaayyy! Me: Yes.
Once the Cha-nayyyyyy was replaced with "posh rich girl". Which was charming. The 10 minutes we were talking beforehand we were getting along perfectly well.
To be fair I only say Cha-nayyyyy as in freshers chatting with someone asked them where they were living they responded with "Chaynay" as it is said

Oh I've heard that. In freshers, outside (drinking Moet may I add haha) the block heard someone saying say Chaanayyy. I was like "Chaanaaay?!?!?" and they, quite seriously, said "Yes Chaanayy. It's french."
Crescent is nice and cheap!!!!=))))Community there is great. But u should keep in mind, that yeah, it is quite far away from everything. If only the bus had a different timetable...
I was hoping to apply to live in Cheney! I didn't go to private school... I wouldn't be a total oddball would I?
Oh no, sorry didn't mean to put anyone off haha. It's just the stereotypical and exagerated view of the place. You would however have to put up with the whole:
"Where are you living?" "Cheney" "Oh Chaaaaaa-nay"

Despite going to one of the best state colleges in the UK, I'm still somewhat an oddball haha. I mean, there are people who's parents are on the rich list! But yeah, as long as you don't care and don't pay any mind to the people who think there is a difference, it'll be fine haha.
I don't even know anything about applying for accommodation, last year I was all set to stay at my flat in my hometown, all I know is that you're not always guaranteed the place you apply for, and my friend who is way more organised and efficient than I am still had her university (of london) messing her about accommodation wise right up to september O__O
So if I really wanted to live at Cheney, what would the best tips you could give me to ensure I get accommodation? )
They dont allocate accomodation for people with conditional offers intill september. If you have a unconditional offer you are more or less guranteed your choice of accomodation as they will allocate this to people in July. If you hold a conditional then put Cheney as your first choice and you should have a good chance of getting it as it is by far the biggest halls.
However it is not the end of the world if you do not get the accomodation of choice i didnt get the one i wanted. I wanted Warneford but ended up in crescent, i wouldnt change for the world now.

Thanks a bunch for the info! (: My offer is conditional - So when can I start applying? I want to get it done as soon as possible, I've waited almost a year for this ! Yeah at the end of the day I could be living in the nicest halls, but it's the people who make it! I just prefer the idea of being able to stay at Cheney for most of the year, as I live quite far away and don't see the point in paying a small fortune in train fares just to go back to sleep on a couch for easter or whatever O__O

Just a note all halls at brookes actually cover university holidays, ive had my room in halls all the time over the christmas break (all 5 weeks of it) same will go for the easter break, as the standard contract is 39 weeks. Cheney is 50 weeks so you have the room over the summer aswell which in most cases isnt actually needed.
You will get a booklet and information on how to apply for halls at about april time there is no rush to do it as long as its done before the deadline they set, as no application is actually looked at intill september.
